From personal experience here, this only works if you don't have deadlines for anything. Otherwise, it's two full years on something you thought would take a few months.

I feel this is that "chaotic evil" side of the bookmark discussion.

Although, I'm 1/3 of the way through "Infinite Jest" and that extra weight helps keep it open when I'm reading, so I'm not sure this is a good idea regardless of shock value.
