Liked this - and your tribute to Andy Kershaw.

I think there's a resemblance to a certain other band - but they've developed it into their own sound and it's got my attention. From the album - not (yet?) on Bandcamp but at least available on Tidal - I really like Me And The Tide and the title track, A Strained Ocean.

... Lambeth is hardly an exemplar for LTN implementation: the Mayor of London had to intervene to get the Streatham Wells LTN removed as buses were too often taking an hour to travel a mile down Streatham High Road... The West Dulwich LTN was ruled unlawful after a failure to consider feedback.

Um, the scheme is *within* an LTN: the Brixton Hill LTN. But New Park Road has been kept as a through route, from its junction with the A23 to its junction with the A205, at the request of TfL to provide relief for the Streatham Hill A23 works which will restrict throughput for general traffic...

Well done - and really pleased for - Ben. A thing about Surrey in recent seasons is that they're resilient and have players capable of doing well when the going hasn't been good. Well done Tom Lawes too and a useful knock from Sean Abbott.

Absolutely.

I guess he's sore because he's not going to win the Candidates and this was maybe his last chance? But bad form (not untypical) in any case.

Sorry to hear this! I think parents should want their children to learn your way. They'd learn loads and would enjoy the experience.

Bought today from Balham Flea Market (not sure of name; on the Triangle on Tooting Bec Common):
- House of Love - eponymous album; and
- Japan - Exorcising Ghosts (compilation)
Vinyl records. Loads of surface noise, a big scuff mark on one of the discs but £5 for the two...

Could Lambeth not commission a developer to build?... Maybe it would be eligible for a grant from the Mayor. I see there's a programme with substantial grant money available - £11.7bn over 10 years: www.london.gov.uk/programmes-s....

... the margin between what Lambeth pays landlords to provide accommodation and what tenants pay Lambeth in rent?

3 weeks ago 0 0 1 0

A question and for comparison: I wonder, what if International House was kept as-is and Lambeth built two towers exclusively for accommodation at social rent. How many housing units would be built? What would it cost to build? What income would be receivable and what would be saved on ...

If true, that doesn't sound a great deal - in effect Lambeth would be giving up a large portion of its asset.

... I can also see the value in providing 98 new homes which are properly affordable / at social rent. Are the terms of the 'cross-subsidy' development available - e.g. does Lambeth currently own International House and the Pop Brixton site and will it end up owning the 98 new homes at social rent?

Thanks John, I can see the issue with the adequacy of the proposed support for existing tenants - a multitude of organisations which provide valuable charity/community services which Lambeth and others (if they had the resources?) might otherwise provide. So I've signed the petition...

Which is Denmark's ruling centre left party (sorry but I don't know)? In Britain, I think it's debatable where the governing party stands: I would say centre right.

Striking design for a brick office building in Iran, by Abar Office

So much more appealing, and sustainable, than an all glass design!

Really like this piece. Thank you.
Something else I like about Iran is the contemporary architecture @sustainabletall.bsky.social often shows - for example, bsky.app/profile/sust... and bsky.app/profile/sust....

Just watched this and thought it fantastic. Close-up slow-motion filming of the life of bees with audible fluttering of wings.

… Steve Reed ran the council from 2006 until 2012 and was assisted by Morgan McSweeney. A number of current Labour MPs are ex-Lambeth Councillors. Lambeth is more than £1 billion in debt and the current administration has lost legal cases on multiple issues.

2026 Local Election Projections | PollCheck Ward-level seat projections for 136 English councils. Interactive maps, polling sliders, and ward-level analysis for the 2026 local elections.

But I'm surprised Hackney and Lewisham are places to watch and not Lambeth. In 2022 in Lambeth the Greens had 22% of the vote but gained just 2 seats of 63 (against Labour's 58 seats). Now PollCheck has the Greens winning 34 seats for overall control:

'Fowey Harbour, Cornwall.' (1887) Frank Brangwyn was among the new generation of artists who painted radically different coastal pictures in Britain in the 1880s, their vision sharpened and modernised by the new reportage methods which came with hand-held photography.

Would the Lib Dems - at borough-level - be any different? (I'm afraid I suspect the parties which are against, or at least sceptical about, LTNs are ones I wouldn't vote for.)
