Amsterdam street filled with car gridlock in the 1970’s.
Remember this picture, & others like it, every time you hear someone in your city say "we're not Amsterdam."
This was #Amsterdam in the 1970s.
Many of the cities we admire made better choices regarding cars in the past. and are still making better choices today.
Better choices instead of excuses.

A blue cargo bike with a big basket on back is parked between two bike parking posts. It just barely fits.
Also, is this what semi truck drivers feel like when they back up to a loading dock? Perfect fit!

A cargo bike loaded down with a big red pannier and some large teaching supplies in a basket on the back rack.
I needed to get these giant sticky note things across campus for a meeting. A colleague offered to drive them over for me. No thanks, I've got this!

The city looking beautiful this morning. If you want to encourage cycling, you need infrastructure like this. ♥️ London

My most common advice is "Don't decide in advance what you'll find. Let yourself be surprised. Follow your curiosity."

I used to have a Burley Travoy. It was brilliant. When we moved here, it became much too cumbersome to get the bike and trailer on the elevator. Carrying it folded up didn't work because I needed it to hold my stuff. I donated it to the bike co-op and hope someone is getting great use out of it.

Envy, thy name is Kendra. When we retire, finding a bikeable/walkable/transit friendly place is our top priority.

Fantastic! I wish I were car free, but right now I'm car light. I do make sure that I put more miles on my bikes every year than I do on my 22 year old car. Fingers crossed I'll be car free in a few years.

I've been struggling lately to manage my anger and fear about the direction the US is taking. But, every morning Bokeh nudges me to take her for a walk. Our path takes us along a bluff above the Mississippi River. It's a daily reminder that I need to cultivate beauty and joy and silliness.

❤️ This is so hard. Give her all the love you can for as long as you can.

Good to know. That wouldn't work for me because I live in a high rise building and navigating the elevators with a trailer would be really hard! But, it's good info for people who don't have to deal with elevators.

A blue cargo bike with a big basket on back full of items for recycling is parked in front of a blue dumpster-style recycling bin. The bike also has a red pannier on the rear rack and a wire basket with a red bag on front. There is a bridge in the background.
My cargo ebike and I made a trip to the recycling center today. I'd love to connect with others who love biking (any kind of riding!), are trying to make responsible ecological choices, or who are committed urbanists.
