The Rapid Support Forces launched a large-scale assault on Mustariha in North Darfur on February 22, according to Sudan Horizon and local video footage, with fighting continuing Monday as the Sudanese Armed Forces attempted to repel the attack. The Sudanese Revolutionary Awakening Council said its leader, Sheikh Musa Hilal, survived an assassination attempt after drones struck his guesthouse. Hilal, a former Janjaweed commander who recently aligned with the SAF, was reportedly the target. The RSF is also accused of bombing Mustariha hospital three times and striking homes and a mourning tent. The offensive comes amid a broader escalation in North Darfur following the fall of El Fasher in October 2025. Over the weekend, RSF fighters also attacked the border town of Tina, prompting Chad to close crossings as clashes spilled across the frontier.
