Definitely read Wilmer Flores as Wilmer Fields and got real confused. 🤣

Mexican slugger Ángel Castro with Veracruz
In winter ball, he won an MVP award in Mexico in 1952–53, batting .307 with 16 HR and 56 RBI. He won a couple other RBI titles as well. While his career records have all been eclipsed, El Bateador Elegante (The Elegant Batter) remains an all time great in Mexico.
Mexican slugger Ángel Castro with Veracruz
When the Mexican League talent level rose due to the influx of Negro League and white major league stars in the 1940s, Castro remained one of the best players in the league. He won the Triple Crown as player-manager in 1951 (.354, 22 HR, 79 RBI). He was a 17-time All-Star.

Bob Trice!
Orestes Miñoso made his AL/NL debut with Cleveland on this day in 1949. He pinch hit for pitcher Mike García, walked, and was then replaced by Satchel Paige.
Much of his career came before the launch of Venezuela’s professional league, limiting statistical coverage. But the career totals I’ve compiled:
.306 BA, .468 SLG in 2383 AB
84–62, 2.42 ERA

March: Elliott and I take a 4-hour drive so he can see me make a presentation about my passion.
April: Elliott and I take a 6-hour drive so I can see him make a presentation about his passion.
It’s the best.
Elliott gave an awesome presentation at the Annual Meeting of the Northeastern Anthropological Association at Rowan University in Glassboro, NJ. Once again, he gave a very engaging talk and made a lot of new connections with students and faculty. So happy I was able to go.
Colored-pencil card drawing of Jackie Robinson in Montreal Royals uniform
80 years ago today, Jackie Robinson broke minor-league baseball’s color barrier when he made his debut for the AAA Montreal Royals. He went 4-for-5 with a HR that day and would go on to lead the Royals to the International League championship.
None of the tools that I have available, but maybe I can ask around next week. I’d be surprised if it was anything but Toronto.
Robinson Canó sliding into home to score a run in the Diablos Rojos’ 4–2 win on Opening Day.
Back at it—In the Diablos Rojos season opener last night, Robinson Canó went 2-for-4 with two singles, a run scored, and a hit by pitch as the Red Devils beat Campeche 4–2.
That’s #4027 and #4028 for El Hefe.
Ahhhh this one’s just boxed and maybe not authentic. Or… maybe I am??? 😂
Sorry, I don’t get it 😅
They’re giant 😍

Student: Elliott Darowski Faculty: Dr. Simone Poliandri Title: Dolls In American History: The Effects of Colonization and Commercialization on Indigenous Identities and Artistic Expressions Abstract: The production and use of human figures, or dolls, is a common practice in many societies. However, the materials, construction, purpose, and attitudes surrounding dolls vary cross-culturally. Samples from Indigenous groups in various locations and times in the United States have shown differences in the use of dolls, especially in relation to colonial and commercial forces. To illustrate this, I employ samples from the Robbins Museum of Archaeology’s Doyle Doll Collection, which contains items from twentieth-century Indigenous groups in the United States, to shed light on how the purpose, intended audience, and treatment of these dolls reflect the evolution of groups’ values and gender roles. Keywords: Dolls, Native American Dolls, Gender Roles, Anthropology of Childhood, Colonization
I’m taking tomorrow off to go to the Annual Meeting of the Northeastern Anthropological Association at Rowan University in New Jersey… because Elliott is presenting! Last month he got to come to Cooperstown to see me present and now I’m excited to head to Jersey to do the same. Here’s the abstract.
I was reading it while you sent this! 😍

Ooops I just stumbled upon a shirtless photo of Orestes Miñoso from 1950 and excuse me?
If you're only going to read one thing today, make it this.

Not sure I’ve ever seen anything like this.
Roger Freed hit .398/.463/.627 for the Cardinals in 1977, but only batted 95 times. I thought maybe he got hot as a call-up. But no. He was with the club ALL year. They just never believed it was for real. So he had an OPS of .929 or better every month.
Mike Trout leads the league with 18 runs scored and has 16 hits. That is fun.
Good grief imagine sounding this perfect www.youtube.com/watch?v=jdeq...
