EU climate chief warns there is ‘no workaround’ for high energy prices
Hoekstra: “The only way forward is more electrification, more nuclear, more solar, more wind, more battery capacity, more interconnectors in the European Union, and all of it with much more speed.”
More and more people are saying it.

Train's already on the platform for 10 minutes but still departs 3 mins late, just to show that Deutsche Bahn views the Fahrplan as more of a suggestion. They do it to mess with your basic perception of time and space. DB must realize the total unplanneability of public life under the Schuldenbremse

The first ever Dutch Marxism conference will take place in the lovely city of Amsterdam this October. The CfP, 'Pulling the Emergency Brake' is now online!
Send in your abstracts and reserve the date!!!
For those interested in Alfred Sohn-Rethel, the article Katherina Kinzel and I co-authored has become open access. We appreciate his pioneering impulse to ground knowledge in material life, but think his project ultimately suffers from its neo-Kantian premises.

This essay by Emily Callaci on the complex history of the Wages for Housework Campaign in @nplusonemag.com is one of the most engaging texts I've read in a long while. Billions must-read.

A screencap of the original call for papers for the special issue of Political Theology on "Marx and Revolution"
Together with @s-msorentino.bsky.social, I have edited a special (double) issue of Political Theology on "Marx and Revolution." All of the articles are finally complete and it will be published June 1 as volume 27.4. Can't wait to see it in print!
Whoops!
Having pretty much all the funding, controlling all the departments—it’s not enough. The rigor of the status quo must be total. And then we wonder how it is that with Jürgen Habermas, the last philosopher-intellectual died.
Here’s another thesis: philosophy is dead, celebrated by those who pursue the rigor mortis of ideas. It’s now computer science: theoreticians design formal logic, ethicists suggest some moral guardrails. Philosophy is an expression of power, like this article.

one immediate dramatic consequence of the Hungarian result:
Magyar has promised to repair relations with the EU and unblock a €90bn EU loan for Ukraine
The radical-right authoritarian project may have peaked. Its momentum can be broken.
Bye-bye, and take your friends with you!!!
Authoritarianism isn’t popular.
It's a bit like Taylorism, which took artisan knowledge to shape factory design. The artisans got deskilled and simply executed the design. It meant drudgery and monotony at work. Yet as they now became totally replaceable, their bargaining power bottomed out too. Losing knowledge is losing power.
Sieht cool aus!
Image description: Picture of the following text: "The Eccentric Commodity: Why Only Labor-Power Produces Value Jan Overwijk Abstract Who or what produces surplus value across the economy-ecology nexus? The question is central to Marxism and to eco-Marxism more specifically. This article argues that only labor-power produces value and develops what it calls the work theory of value. It argues, first, that abstract labor, the source of all value, comes onto the historical scene as labor-power. Second, it shows that labor-power has both a use-value, its capacity to do thermodynamic “work,” and an exchange-value, its wage, and that neither of these are unique to labor-power. Third and fourth, the article offers an immanent critique of labor-power and capital respectively. On this basis, the article concludes that labor-power “produces” value because it is an eccentric commodity, the unique part of the economy that has the power to refuse the transition from ecology to economy. In its struggle with capital, labor-power transforms ecological energy into economic “work” or value. Keywords value, ecology, Marxism, eco-Marxism, labor-power, abstract labor, value-form theory, ecological economics, critical theory"
An extremely thought-provoking article on why labour-power produces value under capitalism. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/...
