Earth Day 2026. One Earth. One Team.
The UK was “widely regarded as one of the most influential member states in shaping the EU’s environmental international policies.” The UK and the EU need a more structured and closer relationship to reflect the full, and necessary, scope of the energy, climate, and environmental cooperation. The partnership should be structured around four pillars:
1. Working together for climate safety and energy security Deliver on the commitments in the Common Understanding agreed at the UK–EU Summit on 19 May by: • Linking the UK and EU emissions trading systems •Rejoining the EU Internal Electricity Market
2. Building Europe’s Grid: Interconnectors and Joint Energy Planning The UK should seek full membership of the North Seas Energy Cooperation (NSEC) - securing a seat at the table in shaping offshore energy development and grid planning across northern Europe.
Today is Earth Day, a day to demonstrate support for environmental protection. We only have one Earth, and to protect and restore it, we need to be one team. Click to see what European Movement UK believes is needed to turn the ambition of the UK-EU Summit into lasting progress.
Ten years after Brexit, one thing is clear: the EU and the UK are stronger together. From trade to education, security to digital, it’s time to turn the page and reset our partnership. Roberta Metsola, President of the European Parliament
Recent polling by YouGov found that 55% of Britons support rejoining the European Union, including almost 1 in 4 former Leave voters.
The public will is clear. Our national interest is clear. Our future lies with Europe.
The European Council should complete the formal approval tomorrow, certainly on Friday at the latest.
🔴 BREAKING: EU provisionally approves €90bn Ukraine loan as 🇭🇺 Hungary drops opposition

Excellent recommendations, and it's good to see ending the national veto/unanimity as number 1 on your list.
Having a national veto in a union on >27 member states is a recipe for blackmail. It has to go!
🇭🇺 The redemocratisation in Hungary has begun - and the EU must draw lessons from the Orbán-era.
➡️ 5 points 🇪🇺
1. No more blackmailing
2. Arm democracy in Council
3. No democracy, no EU money
4. Break the law, face the ECJ
5. Charter must bind – Commission must act
If it were only the Brexiters being foolish that would be fine, but far too many otherwise sensible people still insist on presenting FoM as a price of Single Market membership, when it is in fact one of the benefits of membership.
It's difficult to sell something if that's your starting point.
Europe must act now: end fossil fuel subsidies, speed up renewables, and pass the 20th #sanctions package on Russia. Russia still earns €713M/day from fossil fuels while civilians in #Ukraine continue to suffer. Cut the funding, save lives.

⚡️EU ambassadors back 20th package of Russia sanctions after Hungary, Slovakia drop veto.
EU ambassadors agreed on the 20th package of sanctions imposed against Moscow in response to its full-scale invasion of Ukraine on April 22, after Hungary and Slovakia lifted their veto over the measures.
Two-thirds of the funding will go to Ukraine's defence, with the other third going to other public services.
There will only be a just peace when Russia realises it cannot outlast Europe's support for Ukraine.
The approval of this loan is an important step towards making that a reality.

Good news!
Today EU ambassadors agreed to launch the procedure to provide a €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
The European Council is expected to formally approve the loan tomorrow, along with the 20th package of sanctions against Russia.

It says something about the level of the discussion about rejoining the Single Market or EU that people spend time thinking about how the UK can avoid Freedom of Movement (which it can't), when a large majority in the UK support Freedom of Movement.
Absolutely agree, in times like this we need to push forward an ambitious vision fir tge future, not half measures.
Talk more about the destination, not the possible service stations we could visit along the route.
🚨🚨New @bestforbritain.org report argues I think convincingly that a push for UK membership of the EU would galvanise support among progressive voters, recognising that other halfway options such as customs union or EEA are would offer to limited benefits. 🧵 www.bestforbritain.org/push_for_eu_...
There's a really simple way to remove the red tape and bureaucracy that is holding back British businesses. We have the largest trading bloc in the world on our doorstep: we should skip the baby steps, and just rejoin the single market.
With the EU expected to approve the €90 billion loan to Ukraine as early as today, what happens if Russia refuses to pay reparations to cover it?
As @kyivindependent.com reports, the EU would have to pay it from frozen Russian assets instead.
Russia must pay!

❌ A package of measures to be agreed at an EU-UK summit in July will, by the government’s own estimate, increase UK GDP by just 0.3 per cent over the next decade and a half.
🇪🇺 It is time for this government to be much bolder on Europe, it is time to talk about EU membership.
Denmark at UN: There must be accountability for international crimes committed by Russia in this brutal campaign to destroy independent Ukraine.
Denmark fully supports efforts by International Criminal Court, Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Ukraine,
"The world is a different and much more dangerous place than it was a decade ago, we must be ambitious and realistic - Britain and the European Union need one another."

Let's hope this happens tomorrow.
Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine will not end until the Putin regime realises that it cannot outlast Europe's support for Ukraine.
Approving the €90 billion loan would be a big step by the EU towards making Russia realise that it cannot win.
EU ‘right to repair’ law
The EU will soon require smartphone manufacturers to let users replace their batteries.
The tough new rules - endorsed by the European Parliament this week - could save millions of phones from landfill.

Good. It’s easy to forget that climate change denial & shilling for fossil fuel companies provided a template for Tufton Street, Brexit & pretty much every egregious example of persuading populations to vote against their own interests. The story of Don Pearlman should be taught in kindergartens…
Razom We Stand joined 25 NGOs urging EU leaders to stay the course on tough Methane Regulation.
In times of geopolitical volatility, certainty saves money. Weakening the rules now would increase risk and costs — something Europe can’t afford to risk.
Russia has had to cut oil production by more than 300,000 barrels a day because of Ukraine's strikes against its oil terminals in the Baltic and Black Sea.
This helps reduce profits due to Trump's illegal war on Iran, profits that fund Russia's war of aggression.

Recall that one of the first clear signs that the Orban regime was in trouble was when tens of thousands of people joined last year's Pride march in Budapest in open defiance of a ban.
www.theguardian.com/world/2025/j...
The European Court of Justice has ruled that Hungary's Orban-era "anti-LGBTQ propaganda" law breaks EU law and violates the fundamental rights of EU citizens.
This clear ruling should help the incoming Tisza party government of Peter Magyar repeal the laws.

We expect some positive decisions tomorrow on the €90 billion loan to Ukraine.
This would show that our support for Ukraine remains strong and that Russia cannot outlast Ukraine.
My doorstep ahead of today’s Foreign Affairs Council ↓
Rejoining the Single Market is a clear economic priority for the UK.
Rejoining the EU should be our political priority, so we can help shape Single Market rules.
Committing to rejoining the EU will show we stand with Europe's democracies, and make repairing the damage done by Brexit easier.
It's almost as if we'd be better off rejoining the EU.
Wait ... we would be better off rejoining the EU.
We need to commit to playing a full and constructive role in the future of Europe as an EU member.
Anything less is wasting time we don’t have.
