So if the opponent gets a double minor and you score within the first 2 mins, you automatically end that first power play’s clock and start the second one at 2 minutes, restarting the process for the second half of the penalty.

Also I don’t think anyone explicitly told you this but the power play ends early if they score before the penalty is up! You can have a short power play if you score within secs of its start. This only applies to minor penalties(2 mins) tho- a 5 min major must play out the full 5 mins no matter what

I would like it to be known I was the first one to answer you or else I wouldn’t have joined in 🫶 but just for a bit of fun, you can also have a “double minor” which is 2 2 minute penalties stacked against each other. Anecdotally I think most commonly this is for a high-sticking that draws blood

The lines of players don’t have to be configured a specific way to be called a power play! the term is simply for having an advantage by having one more player on the ice than the opposing team. However, power plays DO tend to utilize mixed teams (called special teams) to maximize chance of scoring

One person is penalized and taken off the ice which means the team that is not penalized has an extra player. That is the power play (the opposite side that is down a player is on the penalty kill at the same time)
