All BOM weather stations parsed and indexed — onwards to enrichment with XML datasets. While it’s not fully needed for a current weather endpoint, it’s going to make life easier when we start handling forecasting.

Mapping Bureau of Meteorology’s data this weekend and planning endpoint resources for my first API. Still deciding whether to self host it or just go with Azure Apps or similar… What to do what to do..

Depending on the use, vim or neovim and the Mies colour scheme because of some modern syntax stuff like git

Explaining API calls and classes to a not technically inclined missus is the best learning experience I’ve had in two months of daily #Python study. Thanks love 💙

Who else remembers calling Microsoft support to get some random CD key for windows XP unblocked?

If they’re requesting contact I’d be very cautious. Perhaps try checking the company leak on haveibeenpwned? Can’t be too careful nowadays, lots of very targeted stuff going around

Dangit, Git!?!

@ksylor.bsky.social today I fixed a git (user) issue thanks to your brilliant website. Needed to undo a commit after forgetting to update my .gitignore (hence 'user issue'). Normally I'd just start again, but was able to overcome.. The proper way. Many many thanks!

This is a great thread lol you can scroll and be reminded of how old we are! Ask Jeeves was also a reasonably helpful gentleman (tbh ahead of it's time! converting human readable phrases into search queries!)

Absolutely agreed. Certainly think Mozilla could have done a better job at communicating, but hey, I think most people who don't read headlines about poor interpretations of legalese are still quite happy with their browser :)

It's refreshing to see someone not over exaggerating the recent happenings at Firefox!!

I honestly go back to i3 sometimes just so I can use a chromium browser. Unfortunately it doesn't like nvidia cards under wayland :(

Got you mate. I probably wouldn't want to develop in the ESR version then lol. If it were me and was just for dev I'd just make it easy on myself and use the dev version. If you're running a custom extension you could always look into signing it yourself

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

You could run Firefox ESR with betterfox.js. I believe the ESR version allows unsigned extensions out of the box

1 year ago 1 0 0 0

To be honest, you're probably better off using vanilla Firefox with betterfox.js and uBlock at this stage of the game. The whole fingerprinting thing is a little misleading in some ways: there are so many more ways to fingerprint you purely as a result of how browsers actually work

NextDNS sounds good for your case. You can have separate profiles for the youngins. It’s always been reliable for me and has a faster DNS than Cloudflare in my location. Give it a whirl, the free tier is very generous

Politics is seemingly eradicating society, community, and conversation. We are and have been divided and conquered. From cars, to food, to browser choice. When did this happen? And why?

Any time! They’ve always been solid and reliable in my experience. I don’t have a huge issue with Cloudflare, especially as their free tier is so generous (and sustainable as you pointed out). Always nice to have an alternative around though

Interesting thread about Cloudflare's free tier. *If* that's something that concerns you there is always DeSec: a #security focused DNS provider which is free and #OpenSource

If you want to stick with the Gecko engine use Librewolf. They value strict privacy and security over convenience, and have removed all Mozilla telemetry / fuckery. If you want to go with the Chromium engine, go with Brave. They have very sane defaults for anti-ad and privacy which can be tweaked.

If you’re a #Firefox refugee, here are your options:

1) #LibreFox. Firefox fork with UBO and Mozilla telemetry & tracking removed. Strict anti-ad & privacy defaults. Less convenience.
2) #Brave. Chromium fork with solid anti ad and privacy focused defaults. More convenience.
3) Wait for #Ladybird
