Yikes. Men need to see and experience women leaders and mentors, just as women do. Women have plenty of access to stem careers nowadays. It is leadership where representation is limited. You want to demonstrate good leadership for other women? Don’t exclude people for things outside of their control

Not a patch clamp! This is in vivo skeletal muscle contraction after tibial nerve stimulation 🙂

Years in the making… quite literally (aging studies are no joke). Excited to finally get these experiments off the ground!

I love this time of year because there are so many opportunities to celebrate with colleagues.

But I don’t love all the deadlines that fall at the same time. Forget about balancing things so work fits into the work week.

At least I have good coffee to fuel me while I wrap up this grant proposal!

Woohoo! Just found out we got a $50K pilot grant to further interrogate mechanisms linked to metabolic adaptations associated with physical inactivity.🎉

A snuggly doggo

A snuggly doggo

Someone sure missed me while I was at #IPExercise2024 the last few days. Great conference (as always) but I’ll admit I did miss the puppo snuggles while I was gone🐾

Oh it’s 100% a way of gatekeeping. Hoping the move to a yes/no investigator/environment category in 2025 will improve this.

I will never truly understand the NIH scoring system even after participating in study sections. How can one receive nothing but praise under strengths in the investigator category, paired with “no weaknesses noted”, yet still only score as low as 3’s? Asking for literally every pretenure PI I know.

My lab has a tiny ice bucket like this. No idea where it came from, I think we inherited it. But it is actually super handy and gets a surprising amount of use!

This guy is so weird. Panting hard after getting a 5km walk before the heat of the day set in & all he wants to do is snuggle

If there’s one thing academia likes to do, it’s recreate it’s self in new environments 😂
