#Unreal's map checks are great, but how do you extend the same courtesy to all content in your project?
How do you make sure static meshes in the props folder have LODs set up right? Can you ensure a data asset containing balance data never breaks its invariants?
Enter Asset Data Validation! 🧵
stating that my “There’s the traitor!” placeholder VO, with my bad acting and northern accent combo, still sticks with them every time they see an advert for The Traitors.
The hunt for the audio files starts now 🤣
Congrats to @richdmay.bsky.social and the team at Rebellion for winning a BAFTA last night, bringing back memories of hoping we’d win 20 years ago with Rogue Trooper.
Which has brought up a memory from an old team member,
Yep. Momentarily thought I was famous 🤣
RPS asked me to write about DLSS5, the "neural rendering" tech that Nvidia have been crowing about, that uses generative AI techniques to replace rendered graphics. I wrote about framerates, fakery, and how you seize control of an industry.
unreal engine shot showing a right click menu on a details menu property. the menu has copy, paste, copy display name, copy internal name.
unreal UI/plugin desire: let me arbitrarily add comments to any details field. like this menu should have "Add Comment" and i can type a little blurb and it is either expanded in text next to the value or a lil speech bubble lets you show/hide it. let me add context to choices that have been made.
It also had a much bigger 3D view than the first, it was mind blowing. Absolutely loved those games, they were a huge influence on me getting into the industry (even though I didn’t realise that at the time)
Had to sit at a keyboard to actually check; it appears I use my middle finger.
Use photopea instead of gimp? 🤔
Or a Mac? 😜

Aethus by solo dev @beacondev.bsky.social is a stunning narrative-driven survival craft-me-do that took over my entire week.

Sunday’s match is obvs gonna be 0-0 😕
We're hiring for various animator positions - including a rare entry level role - all remotely in the UK / EU

Cover of Edge Magazine issue 421, which has No Law from Neon Giant on it
One year ago today, Moore Games was born!
It's been a busy first year, lots of lessons learnt but overall it's been a great start.
The main focus for the next few months is helping the incredibly talented team at Neon Giant with No Law as its launch gets ever closer.
It's launch day for @beacondev.bsky.social's Aethus, a great little survival/crafting game with just enough narrative to keep the adventure moving without getting in the way. Mine with your drone/friend, upgrade tech, explore farther, and find what's hidden below.

I'm so happy that Alex has got this to release, and still utterly amazed at what an amazing job he's done.
It's a great little game, he could easily sell it at £30 but he's launched it at £13!!!
Well worth your support
I’m flying to Sweden a lot at the moment. The food at Stockholm Arlanda T5 is fab and not that much more than elsewhere in Sweden (which is now, if anything, cheaper than eating out in the UK).
Manchester Airport has a Giraffe that you instantly regret and need a bank loan to eat at.
It was a fun day for sure 😍
No doubt there will be more fun days in the future, will keep a lookout for you.
Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
It’s been a minute since a game I worked on has featured in a magazine, and it still feels awesome :)
A short film about endometriosis has won a BAFTA, bringing much needed visibility to the disabling condition.
Endometriosis and adenomyosis robbed me of years of my life.
Countless surgeries, blood transfusions and hospital stays.
Doctors saying it was “no big deal”.
It’s a very big deal:

You’ve said players aren’t region locked, so do these events give you an advantage or special valuable items?
If so then - with my game design hat on 😉 - I’d wager it’s a conscious decision to ensure somebody doesn’t rinse each event and gain x3 stuff over someone who only plays at 9pm local
Of course, it could just be a conscious decision from the dev team, or something they just didn’t think of.
It could also be something that’s gone round 100 times internally and led to decision paralysis, which I’ve seen happen a fair few times 😕
2/ Time zones… if there seems to be an obvious solution that hasn’t been used, try to understand what the pitfalls of that solution might be.
Are players region locked? Could they spoof their IP to gain an advantage? Is there a cost to running each event? Etc.
1/ It is indeed preferable to have things you’ll want to tweak quickly as an online file that can be checked at boot, but you obviously need to do this in a very secure way so nobody can fake that file and cheat.
Caveat - I haven’t played Arc Raiders so don’t know the systems you’re asking about, so my answers are going to be “in general”.
