"Hours passed, like a kidney stone." (Clockwork Boys, p. 101. Excellent book so far.)
Thank you, @tkingfisher.com, for the best laugh in recent memory.

The Columbine massacre was on this date in 1999. Instead of energizing our country to get gun violence under control, it kicked off a new normal. One of the best explanations ever of journalism's destructive impact on mass shootings came from Roger Ebert in his review of Gus Van Sant’s “Elephant.”
“Pancreatic cancer mRNA vaccine shows lasting results in an early trial. Scientists caution that more research is needed, but nearly all of the patients who responded to the personalized vaccine are still alive six years later.”
This is why we should fund science. 🧪
That sounds like something AI would say.
Or else someone who's already p0wned your machine and doesn't want an update coming along to close the backdoor they're using.
Knowing of this usage, I'll be less likely to use the word properly because its meaning is diluted.
I wouldn't use the new meaning unless I were writing dialog for a character who would be expected to use it. I don't have any such characters, and I'd rather keep it that way. It's ugly.
I know that hundreds of years ago "cuckold" was a deeply shameful thing to be and a deadly insult to call someone, but it specifically meant that that man's wife was actually banging another man. Like "bastard", I have to remember that it was a big deal then.
TIL that "cuck" is used as a general insult to submissives. I only knew it as a term for the specific kink of watching one's partner being fucked by someone else.
Outside of that kink, I think of "cuckold" as the sort of obsolete word that modern writers use to show off their erudition.
How are carrots so impervious to heat? I swear I could hold one in a bunsen burner flame for 5 minutes and it would still be half raw. We should investigate them for spacecraft heat shielding.

Infograph about censorship. It compares it to magnets.
Sorted my thoughts about censorship, so I can stop thinking about it.
The most bad-ass rebuttal from Tite Kubo, the author of Bleach.
@keyotter.bsky.social you have your own stage?!
You can get gasoline delivered to your house if you live on a farm. But you have to have a large tank (hundreds of gallons) for it, and I don't think you're allowed to use it for your regular car.
You could also have an apartment over a gas station if your local zoning allows.
I need to commission you more.
Actual Christians -- that is, those who follow the Jesus in the Bible, not the NatCs -- need to pay attention. Even if you believe a Christian theocracy would be a good idea, this is not the Christian theocracy you want.
Ooh, full color 3D badges!
Outside of furry writers, if werewolves are furry-adjacent enough, I highly recommend Moon Called (and many more, but start with Moon Called to avoid huge spoilers) by Patricia Briggs. Also The Silvered by @tanyahuff.bsky.social and The Black Wolves of Boston by Wen Spencer, both standalone.
Off the Beaten Path has a female protagonist, though the main romantic relationship is m/m. Legacy's protagonist starts straight and struggles to accept being gay, but it's mainly about taking on a corrupt world. Hearttheft is M/NB, fighting a grand conspiracy at the heart of an evil religion.
@rukis.bsky.social is one of the best writers in furry. Not a cis-dude. The romantic relationships are mostly male/male, but the main line stories are not mostly about sex. (There is some, explicit, on screen.) Black powder weapons and sailing ships in a world that's an allegory of our history.
Someone on the Internet is wrong. Just let it go.
If only that procedure were required to use Instagram in the first place, and something equally impractical for every other anti-social media platform, we could be much better off.

There's a rise in furries saying they can't go to a con because they don't have a fursuit.
And I've seen countless profiles say things like "I don't have a fursona because I can't afford a fursuit or art."
Oh my sweet summer children, your imagination is your fursona.
A fursuit is a luxury.

If SCOTUS does not hear the appeal, they implicitly endorse the lower court ruling. To underscore the point they could issue a scathing one-paragraph unsigned statement affirming the ruling and calling the case frivolous. To actually hear the case grants it legitimacy it does not deserve.
This is so blindingly obvious that I cannot understand why the Court even took the case.
