Big win for WLP, and a reminder of the importance of state courts and state constitutions. PA, by statute, broadly prohibits Medicaid payments for abortion. That was just thrown out as a violation of PA's Equal Rights Amendment and PA Constitution's equal protection clause.

From @womenslawproject.bsky.social's email blast just now: The "Commonwealth Court of Pennsylvania issued a ruling recognizing autonomy as a fundamental right in Pennsylvania and overturning the state’s statutory ban on Medicaid coverage of abortion" 🎉🎉🎉

This is a big deal! So happy for @womenslawproject.bsky.social, @dsc250.bsky.social, PA abortion providers, and all the people across the commonwealth of Pennsylvania who may benefit for this ruling!

We cannot become numb to this, even with the other, more chaotic military news. This is serial murder — incessant extrajudicial killings — even if they do it every day and tweet about it. Those who don't enjoy Roberts immunity should be prosecuted.

@brainstormlaw.bsky.social has a new article about this!

This NYT story is extraordinary. Very rare to get such insight about SCOTUS workings so (relatively) soon. Read it.

Critical Atlantic current significantly more likely to collapse than thought Scientists say finding is ‘very concerning’ as collapse would be catastrophic for Europe, Africa and the Americas

The AMOC collapsing could be among the worst news ever, but you wouldn't know it from our collective thoughts and actions right now. www.theguardian.com/environment/...

It’s a telling indicator of media desensitization that the US government’s ongoing program of murder on the high seas—which according to the perpetrators has killed fourteen (14) people this week— is no longer a subject for much serious or sustained news coverage.

Get over your racism to fight declining birthrates and increasing labor demands in limited sectors challenge for nations. Some will get with the program, other nations will double down on their racism and xenophobia.

Boasberg again runs into a Trump-majority DC Circuit panel that moves to block him from investigating possible contempt of court around the CECOT deportations.

A majority of the DC Circuit previously suggested that contempt likely occurred, so this case is not remotely over yet.

Boasberg is currently one of my heroes, because long after the news cycle has moved on, he continues to work doggedly to enforce a measure of justice for something profoundly evil

Ugh. Devastating. So disappointing for the rule of law. Any one think this can go en banc?

Same goes for every "genius" academic or scholar.

It's the 7th month of the US bombing random ships in Latin American waters they claim are drug smugglers (reminder that two survivors who were rescued were repatriated, not charged), and the death toll is 150+, and it barely gets discussed.

So happy to hear about the shadow EEOC! Hope the media gives them more attention over time, because this is the first I'd heard of them...

Gossip as governance and the actions that victims in the legal academy must take to protect themselves otherwise and the dynamics surrounding those choices that I write about, can be seen in other contexts, like in what's coming out abt Eric #Swalwell right now. 1/x

In a first, renewables beat natural gas on US grid last month It’s just one month, but it’s a sign of where the U.S. is headed as renewable energy — namely solar — surges onto the grid.

In a first for the U.S. grid, renewables generated more power than gas across a whole month.

A WHOLE CIVILIZATION
WILL DIE TONIGHT
My son needs lunch, and I have to put his backpack together, but a whole civilization will die tonight, so I'm wondering if they've closed their schools.
Like, a snow day, maybe, except instead of snow it's
"keep your children home so if you die, you die together" — instead of "well open back up once the plows have cleared" it's
"we don't know if we'll be here tomorrow, hold your babies tight."
It's just "talk" I'm told, which I've been told before.
"It's how the president makes his deals." But I've never heard anyone talk about other human beings this way, and I'm not certain I can look my son in the eyes if we all agree to stomach it one more time.
A civilization will die tonight, but as I zip up his backpack and kiss him off to school I think: if this is what we call leadership then I'm not entirely sure ours isn't already dead.

Before I became an American, I was Lebanese. Parts of my family live in Lebanon.

Anyway, you don't need those bona fides to feel this way, but what is happening in Lebanon right now is a complete outrage. The people there, who mostly are just trying to carve out a living, don't deserve this.
