The 90's were overrated and certainly not "the best time ever"

Here we go, something I've been drafting for a long, long time: how the US-centric approach to video games and their history / culture basically gaslights us who come from other realities:

Not a dime of taxpayer money or govt contracts should go to Palantir.
Plainly telling his own staff “I will ignore the Constitution to enact revenge on my imagined enemies” sure seems to me like a valid basis for impeachment proceedings for a life-term judge in the highest court.

Hey, I think we found the judicial activism.

do you ever wake up at 3am and think "shit that's a good idea, I better write that down so I can share it later on"

"The University of California system, the California State system, the City University of New York — these are the institutions actually educating America’s workforce, actually moving first-generation students into the middle class, actually delivering on higher education’s democratic promise."
“Like Donovan, a portion of scientists conducts research from soft money positions, wholly dependent on grants, encouraged by unis expanding research capacity without long-term salary obligations. That compact was broken by the administration, scientists in soft money positions felt the fallout.”
the idea that taxing billionaires will give us a bright new socialist future is nonsense, the reason to have a tax code that treats them with maximal hostility is because their wealth is a threat to democracy and stability
Media outlets have infrastructure to support such investigations — experienced reporters and editors, newsroom lawyers, resources to fend off lawsuits. The content creators had none of that. Both women said they independently took out umbrella insurance policies to protect their houses and other assets in case they got sued. At one point Fodor, feeling increasingly overwhelmed, sent a message to Hunt: “I think we have bitten off more than we can chew here.” The influencers agreed that specific allegations needed to be broken in a news story. While reporters dug into the allegations, they kept up a public drumbeat, insisting that Swalwell was a shady character and promising the details would come out soon. The tease infuriated many on social media, who accused the influencers of being irresponsible by lobbing accusations without backing them up. But the threat of a soon-to-drop news story was enough to dry up Swalwell’s fundraising and unnerve supporters. Political operatives of all stripes were disconcerted watching the influencers play by their own set of rules, different from the norms of media outlets, and wondered if this would become a new normal in campaigns — a prospect that even unsettled the influencers. “I have a lot of fears about the blurred lines between content creators and journalists,” Hunt said. She knew her personal familiarity with Swalwell’s reputation would never have been sufficient basis for a reporter to write a story. “It was enough for me to feel confident in not getting sued, and to want to let other women know that they weren’t alone, and only from that place would we be able to break his story in a traditional news media outlet,” she said. “I don’t want this to be a green light to creators who think that they should be breaking sensitive news.”
The series of events that resulted in Swalwell's downfall bring up a really interesting (and depressing) conversation about traditional media vs. independent and how money in journalism controls who has the safety to tell the truth

Swalwell has announced his resignation from Congress. It’s impossible not to ask why Texas Republican Tony Gonzales hasn’t done the same. And why the GOP doesn’t insist the Epstein files, which repeatedly mention the head of their party, be fully released.
Warner Bros specifically has had THREE utterly disastrous mergers in the last two decades that ALWAYS result in layoffs, price hikes, shittier products, and everybody losing their shirt, but I want you to notice how the U.S. outlets covering this story don't think that's worth mentioning
This kind of thing at Substack (including their Nazi problem and trans hate problem) are why my newsletter is at Ghost.org and always has been. Andrew Tate is a spectacularly vile human being accused of numerous violent crimes against women and hugely corrosive for young male minds.

Told my wife to have dinner ready at 6 or I'll obliterate her entire civilization. So anyway, she now charges me a fee to use the bathroom that used to be free, and I didn't get any dinner, but I'm pretty sure I won that exchange.

Remember when Republicans pretended to be apoplectic over Obama giving Iran "pallets of cash"?
YES, A FAILED IMPEACHMENT MEANS REPUBLICANS APPROVE OF TRUMP'S CONDUCT. THAT'S THE WHOLE REASON TO DO IT

According to the Atlantic, the right never has agency, everything they do is a reaction to the left. Therefore, everything the right does is the fault of the left.
