This amazing photo was taken by Commander Reid Wiseman on Artemis II.
What a lot of folks don't realize is that this side of the Earth is illuminated by moonlight, not the sun. And you can see aurora on both poles.
Picture was rotated 180 degrees to provide more familiar orientation.

After a short sabbatical from The Food Archive, I am back with my latest post on Desire Paths. A desire path is the trodden shortcut that tells you the official route isn’t serving its purpose. So...draw your own. www.thenutritionarchive.com/blog/2026/3/...
Hiked 50 km to & from #Bologna & stayed at this lovely agroturismo owned by Patrizia & her 94-year-old mother Anna. Where else can you spend an evening in the countryside, enjoying hand-made tagliatelle con ragu & rabbit (cooked on a wood-burning stove) around the family kitchen table? #VivaItalia!
To those in the replies pointing out that 2/3 of the ag land is pasture, much of which can’t grow crops/trees: true.
That said, ~1/3 of today’s pasturelands used to be forest. Pasture expansion is #1 driver of tropical deforestation this century. And beef uses 20x the land per g protein vs plants.

As 2025 comes to an end, let us not forget the devastating loss of USAID & its impact for those who suffer from food insecurity and hunger. This New Yorker documentary reminds us about the loss and devastating consequences of rash decision-making. Powerful and tragic but a must watch. bit.ly/4aLjjYP
As I say here, this is not about saving the planet. The planet will be orbiting the sun long after we’re gone.
The question is, will there be a healthy, thriving human society on that planet? The answer to that question is very much up for grabs at this point.
Fantastic opportunity to work with @fao.org in Rome. Senior Agrifood Systems Officer (P5) working in Division of Agrifood Systems and Food Safety to drive forward the implementation of a systems approach in decision-making in food and agriculture.
