- Before I forget: Character Creation! So there are a couple of preset faces, hairstyles and skintones. Textured hairs? YES. Unfortunately no RGB wheel, and it seems like they over-saturated colors. But tbh I'll take these, too many games nowadays wash out color and get skintones wrong.
underrated is how cathartic the "hide post for me" button is. there's something very soothing about sending harmless things that annoy you to the shadow realm in a way that doesn't impact anyone else.
- Combat: Grid system. No, other characters will not block your movement if you want to move to a spot adjacent to them. If you're used to playing rpg's with grids, squares, etc., then you might find this appealing. Yes, you can range attack rock formations and push boulders to fall onto enemies!
(To add: There is no Jump button/action unlike in the other game. You just click and they go. If they can (dependent on the Strength stat), then they do. No need to dice roll and deal with falling prone, etc. That's what I've noticed anyway.)
- Traversal: Jumping distances; your Strength stat matters.
- Detecting traps: The party member with the highest proficiency will move to the forefront to do it. WHAT. π€
Unlike CRPG's from back then, NOBODY has to wrestle for a spot. And not everyone needs to try to bash a lock. Which is so good π
- Rationing: Like I've said: 1 ration = 1 party member. You can find rations at a general goods shop (they're very cheap), or in the overworld when looting. But since the game encourages you to Rest a lot, and Traveling (which includes camping) uses rations, STOCK UP. Maybe 20 on the first buy.
- Dice rolls especially during combat and checks (including Death Saving Throws) actually feel a LOT more realistic to me, imho... high risk = high reward. Or at least, sometimes it feels that way. I like it a lot.
The best part: although it came out in 2021, Solasta isn't taxing on your system. π€
-Crafting system actually feels a LOT more immersive to me, & it's probably because I have experience with TTRPG's.
There is no instant gratification. Once you have components, you set it & it'll tell you how much time it needs. The craft activates during activate during a Rest or during travel.
-Traveling in Solasta: you actually get to WATCH them move across the world map; left-wise there is a log stating what the party did - if they found something (food, rations, etc) who they met (just random npcs) and if they crafted. They stop when camping. 1 ration = 1 person. Random encounters.
I'm still learning the ropes but here's a tldr:
- you can choose between Dice Rolls and Point Buy in CC
- Solasta is VERY tabletop 5E vs what BG/3 did, which is... whatever that amalgamation was compared to BG/1 & 2 which followed AD&D rules
- the only homebrews in Solasta are the story and deities
I decided to get into Solasta because π¦ really loved it and has been telling me to play. Not to mention my D&D group uses a mod on Foundry that makes the UI like Solasta's in-game UI π
good morning! β¨ i'm so excited for more Solasta later... I honestly prefer it to BG/3 π
