Spent the day wandering from bookstore to bookstore here in NYC, trying to spot the paperback of WAKE UP AND OPEN YOUR EYES. I get the biggest thrill finding a new book in my favorite shops. Thank you so much McNally Jackson, Books Are Magic, The Strand Bookstore, B&N Union Square, and P&T Knitwear

The Arrowverse CRISIS crossover was so amazing. Saw it again awhile back and it held up so well. I don't think that crossover would've ever been topped tv wise.

The cover for Uncanny Magazine Issue 62, “Mermay - Golden Hour" by Maxine Vee: In a forest of brown, orange, and golden leaves, a mermaid with orange/gold hair sits on a rock in a small light blue pond. She stares at her open palms, illuminated by a beam of sunlight. Purple flowers in shade lie scattered on the ground in the foreground. The quote reads: "The form is one page long. No back. Just a front. It should be longer. There are six copies of the form, all different colors. Like I’m working my way through the rainbow to the end where I’ll finally find peace. Red. A parent or guardian. I meet my mother for lunch at the little bistro down the street."

Congrats! Also I loved Th Everlasting SO MUCH. When someone asked me recently what some of my favorite books were this book sprung to mind right away. IT IS SO GREAT. If you haven't read it, you should, especially if you love fantasy and romance. Its so wonderful.

Okay. Let's take a moment to talk about How To Be A Hugo Nominee And Come Out Of It Happy About the Honor. I realize this is relevant to like, twelve people. I don't care, those twelve people deserve my time. (You may have seen a version of this thread before. I do it every year.)

Today is the day John Carpenter's underrated THE FOG is set.

So we're doing a watchalong right now on the @britfantasysoc.bsky.social Discord.

Happy April 21st!

I've been having so much fun rewatching Matt Smith Doctor Who. Just saw The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon last night. Fun episodes. Love the whole mystery of the astronaut and I also love how its finally resolved later. So good.

This would be horrific no matter what it was referring to. But "cleaning up the risk pool" by eliminating vaccines just means you kill a bunch of people WHILE ALSO creating a whole new "risk pool" of people with post-viral issues.

This looks VERY GOOD. The Splatoon universe has a good background/mythology going on and seems like it could definitely support some spinoffs, especially a single player shooter! Though it is cool that you can also team-up with three other people online or local. Anyway, I hope I get to play this.

Those strange liberties taken?

“Holmes has an intensely homoerotic friendship with Moriarty, his family is a whole disaster, and he’s utterly useless as a detective.”

I am even more eager to watch the show now.

One day in the library I was talking to an older lady and we were having a great conversation about fantasy books and somehow she got onto the topic of "how professors like those older books because their political. But no, they are just trash. Just because they're old doesn't mean they're good."

Prohibiting kids from being taught novels in school will do nothing but ensure that they are more ignorant and less able to synthesize information, and unable to make the cognitive progress to be able to comprehend or communicate clearly. Whoever is making these decisions is an enemy of education.

Sherlock Holmes Is Finally Free To Be Gay I recently watched the utterly ridonkulous TV show Young Sherlock, which takes some delightfully strange liberties with the character of Sherlock Holmes....

As of 2023, Sherlock Holmes is finally in the public domain in the United States -- which means that Arthur Conan Doyle's heirs and random other rights-holders can no longer insist that the character be free of any trace of homoeroticism.

Monsters in the Archives by @carolinebicks.bsky.social is out today! I love this book. Its a deep dive into some of Stephen King's novels. It talks about the differences between drafts. If you're a King fan, GET IT. My review again: roland19.wordpress.com/2026/02/10/m... #bookreview #horror

On 'The Pitt' Season 2's Finale: The Story Owes You Nothing When we're too obsessed with plot and not obsessed enough with story, we risk losing whatever substance mass-produced media has left.

The wild reaction and incessant fan demands surrounding THE PITT Season 2 got me riled up, so I decided to take to @popheist.com and use this particular fandom moment to make a very important point about fiction.

The Story Owes You Nothing.

In this Sunday strip, Nemo and Flip are in a race to reach the blind gate. Nemo and the Princess are in a carriage being pulled by large rabbits while Flip’s carriage is being pulled by geese. This gives Flip an advantage as the geese began flying and pull Flip into the air. The Princess leads Nemo to two giant condors in hopes riding them will let them catch up to Flip.

Thankfully the current book I'm reading, The Many, has me hooked and I am making quick progress with it. Its also out today. sigh. I will try to have that review as soon as possible. IF I can, I write up a blog post soon about the two review books I recently got.

So I just got approved for ANOTHER review book. With the one I'm currently reading, that means I have nine review books. I think that might be the most I've ever had. And I am definitely running behind on my reading. sigh
