went to a tournament yesterday for the first time in like 2 months and played some of the best melee i've ever played in bracket :) once i figure out the marth ditto and clean up like 5% of my execution i will become unstoppable

idk what smash 6 will be like, but i feel like a smash game can be made that strikes a perfect balance between melee's speed and complexity and ult's simplicity and ease of access to the benefit of both casuals AND competitive players. these things do not need to be mutually exclusive

not to mention it's honestly pretty ass even from a casual perspective outside the roster and stage list. trophies gone, lack of a (good) story mode because sakurai got mad that people uploaded the subspace cutscenes to youtube (?????), no target test, no stickers, no event matches, i could go on

melee wasn't meant to be comp either ofc but it turned out to be amazing for competition basically by pure chance. i understand WHY ult is as big as it is (newest game on the newest console, easy to get into) but it is such a miserable experience even compared to the other post-melee games

i think most of these issues would not be a thing if smash was actually meant to be a comp. game fwiw. but big roster with all ur fav characters and 100 stages is what moves units

(cont) like arsen, steve's existence, etc. therefore a giant chunk of the cast is torturous to play against

- universal 4f jumpsquat. like yeah let's give heavies an insane buff for literally no reason

(cont) stages that would benefit from it? they play on frozen smashville AND hollow bastion. why?

- unplayable online but i think we can all agree on that

- older smash characters are simple by design but can still create complex interactions. newer smash characters revolve around unfun mechanics

...AND competitive players. i'm not saying every game needs to control like melee. but making your character less fun to move, which is like half the identity of plat fighters, is just an awful decision

- homogenization of the stage list. why is there ps2 AND small bf? why no hazards on

- every smash game since brawl has had its movement mechanics increasingly gutted. no shield drops, perfect pivots from s4 removed, momentum removed, dashes became too committal so neutral is reduced to short hopping and fishing for an opening hit. having less movement options is bad for casuals...

- ult is unforgivably awful to control. why is there so much input delay? why is the buffer that big?

- 89 characters is just way too much, full stop. and it causes the matchups to be rly shallow
