We also outline the major ethical issues in undertaking this work: privacy, context, misclassification, equity, etc. and give tips for how we can advance it responsibly. We believe ED experts are crucial partners in this work and will be key for creating safe and clinically informed systems. 🤝

People with eating disorders often post about their symptoms on social media📱 Can AI help detect markers of ED risk in online spaces & connect users to evidence-based support? Social media platforms already use automated tools to flag harmful content, but these systems usually aren’t transparent.

Update: my F31 was reinstated - I received the NOA for year 2 today. There is a lot of fighting left to do, but I'm grateful for everyone who has been working to defend diversity in science, and for this opportunity as a trainee to do this work ❤️

I’m grateful to have mentors and colleagues who are supporting me for my final year of graduate school. These continued attacks on science and DEI don’t just stifle our overall scientific progress—they threaten the careers and livelihood of researchers, including emerging scientists.

Sadly my F31 was not renewed because it was a diversity F31, a mechanism that no longer exists as it was terminated under the Trump administration. I was eligible for a diversity F due to being a low income, first generation student. Diversity Fs are reviewed in the same study sections as regular Fs

Year 2 of my NIMH F31 was supposed to have started yesterday. An award that I was proud to have funded on the first submission (13th percentile), which supported my dissertation research on eating disorders in adolescents, and which funded my tuition, stipend, and health insurance for the past year.
