I hope if I ever disappear people assume first that I was murdered and 2nd that I did exactly this.

This spreads fear and panic in our community, undermines trans people's credibility, and makes it harder to pay attention to the very real and escalating threats.

It's not clear whether the person was targeted with a fake letter by a malicious person, or faked it themself.

Needless to say, pretending that you've been targeted in this way in order to build your personal brand would not be a transfeminist practice.

So far there are no instances of such content takedown letters confirmed by any lawyers or journalists who work in this space.

This doesn't mean none have been sent, or that this isn't a tactic they might use.
