3 years ago today i released a videogame called OTXO that altered the trajectory of my life and changed the kind of person i am forever. it was an incredible experience and i will always be working for my next game to equal or surpass it

Thanks for waiting, we'll see you in two weeks.
appropriate naming tbh, if they do end up evil it's like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
so here's the thing,
This is run by a random "indie game marketing service" which is to say, leeches. Fuck these guys.
If they added an actual PVE only mode, I would rescind my argument. But as it is it's PVE until another player decides it isn't.
If the possibility of being shot by another player is present, it is a PVP game. If I have to play solo to have a maybe-PVP experience, that's a concession I have to make to enjoy the game, not the intended gameplay experience the game was designed to have. It's poorly designed!
Friction is good, but Dark Souls doesn't ask me to play it like it's a second job, whereas in my experience with Arc Raiders, it does. At least if you want to stay competitive in the PVP. Which the game is.
I suppose my problem with this is that Arc Raiders still _is_ a PVP game at the end of the day. If you have to play the game a certain way to have fun with it then it's probably not well designed.
this was based on arc raiders. marathon is actually really fun and doesnt waste your time
tbh im a huge nasa guy and love the space exploration aspect but the us government funds their research so when called upon they can make a space bomb. its rough

whoa this is dope
top comment says this is DELTRON 3030 For Autistic White Guys and ive never felt more called out
That said one of the greatest presentations on game design and development of all time was at GDC, so it's not all bad.

Truthfully I've always seen GDC as something of gatekeeping event, i.e. you're "in the industry" if you pay over $500 and go to GDC. The literal gatekeeping of the garden doesn't surprise me.

I just gave the demo a shot and yeah maybe. Their game is certainly better designed than mine ever was (playing blackjack against someone playing blackjack = smart) but the sleeve and the slot mechanics are the kind of tertiary add-ons you need to have options on the board. imo it overcomplicates
I took some ideas from Blackjack for the card draw but Blackjack is a casino game because it's incredibly binary (you win or you lose). Trying to extrapolate that binary out into a nuanced decision making playground is... complicated, to say the least. My bad solution was to add mechanics on top.
Interesting experience though. Part of my issue was that the fundamental idea for the game (the hook, if you will) was flawed from a game design standpoint.
for about 8-10 months i worked on this game, it was a card based roguelike where you were a wizard. for the life of me I could not get the mechanics where I wanted them and kept running into game design issues that ultimately I couldn't solve (basically kept the game from being fun).

Context: why the game Minishoot' Adventures has an apostrophe
This goes so hard. Remember guys you can name your game whatever you want the world is free and we build it, market research and the idea of the average consumer is bullshit. The only true route to happiness is through expression of self
