New paper from the @probationres.bsky.social team! We provide broad lessons from the insourcing of probation in England & Wales

1. Structural change is exhausting
2. Milestones ≠ progress
3. Legitimacy can be improved, or undermined, by structural reform

The Exmouth factor – exploring the south Devon beach town by bus, train and on foot Easy to reach by rail and a seafood-lover’s paradise, Exmouth is a perfect place for decompressing, with walks and boat rides on the doorstep

I missed this nice piece on my hometown, initially www.theguardian.com/travel/2025/... It really is a wonderful place and you must visit it immediately

Reminds me of a half-joking quote from a research interview I conducted in 2017: The HO/MoJ split looking much more "continental": "You talk to any Europeans, and it is always the Interior Ministry are a bunch of semi fascists and the Justice Ministry tend to be peopled by more liberal types."

Sense check query for anyone Education-oriented: For my (criminal justice) research, various policy makers have pointed to Education as an area that has seen a lot of bureaucracy stripped out, real improvements in that regard over the past (5? 10? 15?) years. C'est vrai?

It’s been a real pleasure to work with Andrew, Phil and Paula from the @prisonradiouk.bsky.social and can really recommend not just the three episodes we’ve been part of, but their much wider collection of excellent ‘The Secret Life of Prisons’ podcasts 👍🏻
