These are the second chances you make possible with your support. We knew we could give Cola the best second chance possible but we can’t do it without you. Your gift means we can save more cats like Cola. Donate today at hhforcats.org/supportus/

Cola, a senior black cat, looking for love
Cola, a senior black cat, looking up at the camera wondering why he’s not being pet
We fell in love with Cola right from the start and once we learned he was surrendered due to housing insecurity, we made sure he joined us. We’re still getting to know him and his personality but as you can tell from these photos and video - he’s as sweet as they come.
Sometimes you come across a cat at Chicago Animal Care & Control who sticks in your mind as a cat you absolutely need to transfer and give them their best shot at a second chance. For us, that’s Cola, a 13 year old with quite the tale.
Seeing @hhforcats.org in the top ten for cat transfers to start the year from Chicago Animal Care and Control is a huge feather in our cap. That wouldn’t have happened two years ago. We love our city and we do our part to save Chicago cats.
If romantics aren’t your thing - third spaces are important and we’d love be one of yours. Our community is incredible, full of interesting and unique people, and provides a fun experience for people looking for their community. Join us and find your people - hhforcats.org/volunteer%EF...
A close-up, eye-level portrait of a black-and-white tuxedo cat sitting calmly on a concrete floor. The cat has a white chest and "mask" on its face, a small black "goatee" spot on its chin, and striking green eyes. Behind the cat, the background features a shimmering red foil curtain and a wicker basket holding pink roses and heart-shaped Valentine’s Day balloons.
An orange tabby cat stands in profile, looking toward the camera with a curious expression. The cat is positioned in front of a Valentine’s Day display consisting of a wicker basket with pink flowers and a cluster of red and pink heart-shaped balloons. The background is a vibrant, reflective red foil curtain, and the floor is a grey polished concrete.
Three cats are gathered in front of a festive Valentine’s Day backdrop. A shiny red foil curtain covers the wall behind them. In the center, several heart-shaped balloons in shades of red and pink—one reading "Happy Valentine's Day"—are tied to a wicker basket filled with pink roses. An orange tabby and a calico cat stand with their backs to the camera, looking up at the balloons, while a black-and-white tuxedo cat in the foreground looks directly at the camera with bright green eyes.
A tuxedo cat is playfully sprawled out on a concrete floor, tucked halfway underneath a small, translucent pink plastic chair. To the right of the chair is a wicker basket containing pink roses, with red and pink heart balloons floating above it. The entire scene is set against a crinkled, shiny red foil background.
We take holidays *very seriously* here and Valentine’s Day is no exception! We have so many cats looking for the right person to be struck by Cupid’s arrow this and every weekend.

We’ll see you later today and throughout the weekend for adoption hours as well as a pet supply pantry tomorrow from 12-3.
Today, meet Diamond. That’s her CACC name so it’ll change once she’s at the adoption center today. This sweet girl decided humans were pretty sweet and became obnoxiously friendly so duh, she’s ours. We already know she won’t be with us for very long and that’s how we want it to be!
The tyrannical acts we’re witnessing and experiencing on a daily basis impact us all, humans and animals alike, and we’re not here to bootlick for a coward.
We’ve said this many times over - animal welfare and rescue is political and we will always support our friends, neighbors, and community when under attack.

We stand today with our friends who are striking knowing our unrelenting sharing of happiness and joy is our daily act of resistance.
To our friends in Minnesota - we stand with you.
Join us on January 23rd at our Tuxedo Cat Soiree! We want you to become part of our community, join us in building upon our successes, and continue supporting the type of organization you believe in.

93.58% save rate
And that save rate, y’all - that’s a number we pride ourselves on. We use the Best Friends formula for this: (Live intakes – Non-live outcomes*) / Live intakes. 90% is the benchmark and our rate speaks for itself - we exceeded that benchmark!
34 working cat placements
We fully intend on breaking through 200+ second chances and double our Working Cat placements in 2026!
172 total live outcomes
Across our two programs we have nearly 200 cats a second chance and boy, they’ve made the most of it!
Our adoption program continues to be a success and our Working Cats enabled us to help cats we previously didn’t have a pathway for.
187 cats rescued this year!
We just finished crunching the numbers on 2025 and want to share with y’all the work you enable us to do! First up - the animals we have second chances to! These are the successes we’re celebrating at our Tuxedo Cat Soirée next week and we want you to join us - hhforcats.org/soiree
We’re also looking for more volunteers to help with the event! Sign up to volunteer at hhforcats.org/volunteer and we’ll be in touch.

We are so incredibly thankful for the love you all showed Mixtape while she was with us. Help us honor Mixtape's legacy by donating to our Giving Tuesday campaign today - givebutter.com/hhcgt2025
These four won everyone over quickly like Mixtape and would not spend much time with us before finding their homes. Three of the four have been adopted or will be going home this week and Tassel is well on her way to being ready for adoption after recovering from her surgery!
Tassel, a small tortieshell kitten.
Hex, a regal tortishell cat with voluminous whiskers
JInx, a calico.
Mrs Crumplebottom, a playful tortisehell.
It was obvious to us how we should honor Mixtape’s legacy - we would transfer medical cases from CACC and give them an opportunity. With that we brought in three cats who were exposed to feline panleukopenia and Tassel, a small kitten who had her tail amputated due to it being necrotic.
For the longest time we thought Mixtape would make a slow recovery but in September it was clear something substantial was wrong as she was losing weight again and growing tired and anemic. Everything pointed towards Mixtape having cancer so it became apparent what the humane outcome would be.
