She'll probably never forget the time she was walking down the beach in Florida and a manatee in the gulf turned and swam directly up to her, facing her for a few awesome moments just 10 feet from the shore.

False Alarm. Almost every day somewhere in Florida at least a few people get scared or startled out of the water by dolphins or manatees, and sometimes sharks. The dolphin was just trying to get to the fish you see in the foreground of the video.

It's very shallow The water was about 4-8 feet deep. ty :-)
No People, Just Wildlife! The internet is full of pictures that show what happens when people share exact locations of wildlife gatherings. Boats & swimmers crowding whales, whale sharks & manatees are a common site. This is why I never share the exact locations of my videos.

Dolphin LAUNCHES Fish! The dolphin may have sent this mullet flying a little too far. Surprisingly, the mullet managed to survive. Mullet are pretty tough as far as fish go. I took this video yesterday near St Pete, Florida.

I typically see Manatees and Dolphins almost every time I go out just about anywhere in the southern half of Florida. On a good day I'll see a few sea turtles or a spotted eagle ray too.

Manatee mom & her brand new baby. The best thing about this video aside from the baby Manatee, is the mother has no visible scars. The manatee calf still had its fetal folds/wrinkles and was probably only a day or two old.

I thought so too. This is the third time I've managed to capture this on video. 2 out of 3 times the wings folded before re-entry. Here's a shot showing the one that didn't :-) www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MvR...
Yeah, there's a ton of Spotted Eagle Rays in the Keys. I see more Spotted Eagle Rays in the middle and lower keys than I do any other part of Florida. I see them about once or twice a week in most parts of Florida, but every day in the keys.
This big Spotted Eagle Ray launched itself out of the water yesterday about 100 feet from shore. Anyone on the beach looking in the right direction would have been treated to an awesome sight. The ray was about 8 feet wide.

Home Run! It's crazy how effortless some dolphins make this look. Not all dolphins learn this hunting technique called fish kicking, and some are much better at it than others.

A Cobia hitching a ride in the slipstream of a Spotted Eagle Ray. They're related to remoras but get much larger (6 feet). They don't attach to a host like a remora but will hitch a ride in the slipstream to save energy while migrating.

A black Cownose Ray in a large ray migration in the gulf near Clearwater, Florida. This is the first black Cownose Ray I've seen even though I've been filming these ray migrations for well over a decade.

The TRUTH about Crystal River, Florida and Three Sisters Springs. There's so much misinformation about Crystal River and manatees in general. Hopefully this clears some of it up.

Dolphrens. I'll take the company of dolphins over people any day. This pod of dolphins hung around the clear boat for almost 2 hours yesterday. They would venture off every so often to catch a fish & then come back.

A lone manatee swimming through a school of sharks in St Pete, Florida. Although these sharks are all sort of small, even large sharks and alligators move out of the way for a manatee. It's that mafia boss attitude.

Sometimes it kills them, sometimes it stuns them, and sometimes it just disorients them long enough for the dolphin to grab them. On the positive side, they get to fly like a bird for a moment.
2 Very different feeding behaviors used by dolphins in the Tampa / St Pete, Florida area. Both of these feeding techniques have a few different variations.

Have been researching & documenting both for many decades. I'm confident the dolphin was Not being playful. I've seen & filmed a few playful interactions between the two species, and a few where the dolphins were just being jerks, this was relatively mild.
Another manatee swimming through a large group of Cownose Rays in St Pete, Florida. As large as this group of rays (aka fever) is that shows up in the winter, some of the groups in summer are bigger, and are larger than the Mobula Ray migrations in Baja.

Winter Rays... Huge group of rays and some manatees in Tampa Bay, Florida. As large as the winter gathering is, it's not nearly as large as the summer Cownose Ray migration. I'll share some footage of that next.

Manatee swims through a sea of rays in #Tampa Bay in #Florida. I've waited over 6 years for the opportunity to capture this shot. The water was unusually clear, no wind, no clouds & the rays were densely packed together.
