Good question. Perhaps it’ll make illegal parking less likely since you’d have to park on top of the bollards instead of just going them over once and calling it a day?

Coachella is trying to wipe all of the footage of The Strokes protest set so I’m gonna post it here. The last images on the screen made me cry.

It can be simultaneously be true that

A. Most interurbans were trash.

B. We junked a lot of ones that weren’t trash in the name of roadway expansion and/or “buses are the future”.

it's so funny because America is a rich enough country that taxing the rich will actually affect a large number of people, but taxing people specifically rich enough for >$5m NYC second homes affects like 500 of the least sympathetic people in all of New York State

Unlike the MTA which installed dual-media faregates, PATH is removing Smartlink equipment when they install TAPP readers.

PATH’s ADA problem right now is none of the accessible faregates take TAPP.

They could easily retrofit an ADA-accessible faregate by moving the railing down the middle of the ramp over. I wonder if they have plans for that.

Seems like a pilot for more faregates on HBLR and NLR. Farebox is laughably low on NJT’s light rail lines despite high ridership due to rampant fare evasion.

👀👀👀

NJTransit has reopened the west ramp to the Hoboken HBLR platforms with a physical faregate... First one of its kind as far as I'm aware.

Riders can enter by scanning pre-purchased tickets or pay contactless. Only accesses track 4 for Tonnelle Avenue trains.

There’s no “Upper West Side” or “Brownstone Brooklyn” parts of Philly though outside of like six blocks in Rittenhouse Square.

Boston built like six blocks of the UWS in Back Bay and then said “nah never again”.

The parts of Passaic in NJ-11 are white and suburban. The Latinos are in Nj-9.

Checking in on some majority-Hispanic areas in the NJ-11 special election.

Belleville Township (50.2% Hispanic)

2024: Harris 51-47 (+4)
2025: Sherrill 63-37 (+26)

2026: Mejia 65-35 (+30)

A lot of the benefits of development are diffuse while the negative impacts are localized. Those benefits factor into rational decisionmaking more at larger geographic scales.

Now why did Chicago, Philly, and Boston never achieve similar levels of density and vibrancy around their pre-war subways?

It seems she only lost single-issue Israel voters in wealthy Jewish enclaves + plus a few inner suburban 1%ers while finding some new Dem voters in middle class “drive till you qualify” country.

The 2026 Congressional Special Election in NJ-09, a contest between former NJ WFP head @analiliafornj.bsky.social and Randolph Mayor Joe Hathaway resulted in a commanding Victory for Mejía, slightly surpassing Mikie Sherrill's 2022 margin of victory in the seat, and doing better than all…

obviously what democrats really need to be doing to win elections in suburban seats is to nominate moderates who vote with republicans on immigration and identity issues

Phenomenon of homes being used for investment or 2nd homes is rare overall—but a major issue in small sections of big, rich cities like New York. Some areas of Midtown & Upper East Side have >30% overall housing vacancy, with a large share of that coming from homes being used as vacation properties.

This 100%. Seems Murphy threw NJT under the bus and Sherill is trying to ensure the 2026 ops budget isn’t completely destroyed by the World Cup.

You honestly think FIFA has a transparent and meritocratic host selection process? World Cup host selection has been corrupt and money-influenced for decades. This goes beyond “America bad”.

I thought FIFA rejected Soldier Field for not being up to standards.

The organizing committee chaired by Tammy Murphy likely “agreed” to FIFA’s demands.

They are using the transit regardless because there’s going to be no public parking.

Also FIFA is demanding NJT run a bunch of special trains just for ticket holders but won’t pay a dime of that operating costs.

Guess who chaired the organizing committee? Tammy Murphy! The Murphys with their famous apathy towards transit probably didn’t think to check in with NJT before agreeing to FIFA’s demands.

NJT’s spur is clearly woefully inaccurate as are the North River tubes. Clearly the Lincoln Tunnel also needs to be part of the solution - and maybe even the George Washington Bridge too.
