Beat me to it. The first Harry Turtledove book I read on a recommendation from my firm’s historian. I read it sometime after a project near Harper’s Ferry where John Brown attempted to appropriate weapons for his project. So, in short, I love this John Brown/AK post.

Last night, using my iPad’s battery life as a timer, I got 90% of Wednesday’s comic finished. All I need is the lettering, speech balloons, and two panel backgrounds. I might have been this far ahead once a year or two ago.

if I can get Sat’s comic done by Wed I’ll be in a good spot.

Panel 1: On a forest path, Mary Brooks stands facing Lulu who looks human and Dani. Mary says, “I heard you mention your home planet and I know you have wings. Is this a human suit? Is it made from humans?” Dani, standing behind Lulu puts her hand on Lulu’s shoulder, adds, “Show her.” Lulu looks uneasy. Panel 2: Lulu reveals her true form. Mary leans in, wide-eyed, saying, “Oh! You look just like…” Lulu, flustered, replies, “Oh no, please, look, I’m not…” Panel 3: Mary finishes her thought, saying, “…Zoidberg from ‘Futurama’!” Lulu reacts with surprise, smiling, saying, “Eh?!” Stretching her arms toward Mary, Lulu steps forward. Panel 4: Lulu hugs Mary tightly, relieved. Returning the hug, Mary looks unsure. Dani, watching the moment, says, “She’s just happy you didn’t say Cthulhu.”

Panel 1: Lulu hangs upside down from a tree branch in a snare trap by one leg, looking directly at the viewer while saying, “No. This is not how we first met.” Panel 2: Lulu sits at a table with Dani and Jules, all three eating sandwiches. Dani is laughing at the story, and Jules is smiling. Lulu says, “You’re confusing us with that old ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ comic.” Panel 3: Lulu holds a sandwich while continuing the story, saying, “I really love your world’s tuna sandwiches, so I guess Hobbes and I have that in common.” Panel 4: Lulu keeps eating the sandwich and says, “The mercury gives it a nice zing.” Dani and Jules look surprised and concerned at this.

REPOST: Not How We Met

This is the first in the “Not how we met.” gag comics. It works because I seriously had no idea how they might have met.

I just started drawing the comic. I think that’s probably the best way to start a comic.

A lot of morning meetings today so this TBT was late.

Oh my goodness, I have never heard of her. I'll need to find her books now.

I have a two finger glove I use when drawing comics on my iPad. I still manage to leave random “ink” marks, but that just gives the comic character. (Haha comic character.)

Panel 1: Dani and Lulu walk together on a forest path on their way home from school when Mary Brooks suddenly steps in front of them. Mary faces Lulu and says, “Lulu, I know what you are.” Lulu looks startled and replies, “What I am? What are you?”. Dani is shocked. Panel 2: Mary steps forward confidently holding out as photo of a snow angel with bat wings in the middle. She says, “I’m Mary Brooks, reporter for the Starfall Elementary Times, I have evidence you’re an extraterrestrial!” Lulu looks nervous and says, “Uh…” Panel 3: Mary looks frustrated, hand on her face, photos in her left hand by her side, saying, “Unfortunately this is the biggest story I can’t publish.” Lulu, tense and worried, asks, “What do you want from me?” Panel 4: Mary kneels, clasping her hands together as though begging in and says, “I want you to take me with you!” Dani stands behind her, surprised. Lulu is overwhelmed by the request.

I’ve been wanting to introduce this character for a while since the other site- a fifth grader, Mary Brooks.

A budding journalist, the editor and only reporter for the school paper, Mary has been on Lulu’s trail for a little while. What exactly does she want?

Ooooh, this looks fun! I never joined a cult, but I did see a UFO when I was 8 over a rice field in Japan.

I lived next to a military base which I am sure had nothing to do with it.

I only learned that recently and try to preorder when I can now.

Well the book looks to be fun fun fun, so I’ll ask my local comic shop to hold me a copy on release. 😄
