planners: our two universities will be at the end of a peninsula and at the top of a mountain
people: won't people complain about how removed they are from the city?
planners: almost immediately
people: will rapid transit be created in response?
planners: we'll talk about it for decades, but no

Unbelievably corrupt.
Literally just transferring tax-payer's money to his own account.
A decade on, Trump's disdain for his own supporters remains an incredible sight to behold.
They are literally making it up as they go along. When they don't like the outcome, the Smith government rigs the process.
It's a worrisome pattern for those who care about procedural fairness and institutional forebearance.
You know, real conservatives.
Orban is not conceding because he's honourable. He's conceding because his defeat is so comprehensive even he can't pretend he won.
With 15% of the votes counted, it looks like a huge win for Tisza (the opposition) in Hungary's election.
Critical to emphasize that even *if* Tisza wins, it does not mean that there won't be challenges. Fidesz is looking increasingly likely to do so and has already raised alarms of "fraud."
If Joe Biden or Kamala Harris had, etc.
Obama negotiated for two years with Iran over JCPOA and went into every detail painstakingly. These guys, after 20h -- "it's too complicated; talks failed".
An mRNA treatment for PANCREATIC CANCER was in trials, among many other uses. Choosing to end this research is choosing to sentence millions to an early, painful death
It would be (will be?) interesting if Indigenous nations here in Alberta go to Court with the same argument(s) with the question *actually* on the ballot. In that setting, I think the Government's and the APP's arguments fall apart. #ableg
...don't get their referendum. So, because Smith wants to keep her job, we careen towards a vote, whether the separatists have the signatures or not.
Rath is probably correct on the Government's obligations under the Citizens Initiative Act, however, that does not dispense with the threat that the Indigenous nations are pointing out. The threat exists because of UCP party politics -- for Smith, all hell will break loose if the separatists...
Two thoughts on this: ⤵️ (1/4)
"Rath, an Indigenous law lawyer, piqued Leonard’s curiosity by suggesting Alberta’s referendum legislation does not require the government to hold a vote if a petition reaches the required threshold of signatures."

Calgary Mayor Jeromy Farkas came out with some pretty strong words against Alberta separation — and in favour of immigration as a strength for the city — in his remarks at a Calgary Economic Development event yesterday:
This is all so deeply unsustainable...
With arguments today in Alberta litigation on the issue, I am reposting my piece on the 1998 Secession Reference and how the 'honour the Crown' principle changes what the Court said. TLDR: the secession of a province is essentially impossible.

Marilyn Gladu July 1, 2013 • 21 We nee to be reminded of our beginnings, and even up to 30 years ago, Christianity was written into constitutional proceedings. Let the nation return to its strong foundation! Our Christian Canadian History Many of you asked for a copy of my notes from the Canada Day sermon so I thought it would be easiest if I posted them here. I also want to give credit where it is due, I leaned heavily on the book "Stand on Guard" by Faytene C. Kryskow. She did an... CHRISTIANCENTRE.CA

Gladu has a history of making decidedly un-Liberal statements
She's suggested she Canada should "return" to its Christian "foundation" and also shared anti-Muslim videos, commenting: "People came to a country with certain values and now want to kill everyone else"

ANOTHER Conservative MP has crossed the floor to the Liberals. Marilyn Gladu, who represents Sarnia. This...is an interesting one.
How much insider trading was there on this latest bullshit?
"...each general...promoted as a replacement should do likewise, until Trump has a pile of stars and eagles on his desk. Trump may eventually find someone to fulfill his orders, but people of honor and duty need not be the unwilling instruments of so great a sin."
The story of the last 10 years of American politics is that nearly all of our ex post mechanisms of presidential accountability have failed
The action/inaction of other political elites have created an environment where the president, once in office, is immune from accountability
I am not one of those who believes that history repeats, but consider the following from Herodotus: the Oracle at Delphi told the fabulously wealthy King Croesus that if he invaded Persia he would "destroy a great empire." Croesus invaded and lost--the empire he destroyed was his own.
He’s mad. American military leaders should resign, and the US Congress should impeach him as soon as possible. That’s the bar. Anything less is a failure. Horrendous.
BERMAN: Do you think Congress should have a vote if the United States is going to make a whole civilization die?
MIKE LAWLER: John, you are parsing here
BERMAN: I was quoting
We’re living in Veep:
As someone who studies politicization of democratic militaries this statement on X is a five- alarm fire. It creates an undeniable permission structure for overt partisan behavior by mil. It's part of a concerted effort by civilian leaders to turn the U.S. military into a partisan aligned force.
It was a true honor to talk to legendary political scientist Adam Przeworski about how he understands the present crisis, what he learned from Chile and Poland, and how to move forward from here www.dissentmagazine.org/article/how-...
Donald Trump really could stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot someone and not lose any voters.
He’s playing politics in a world where (as you both know better than I) attention is fragmented and traditional formats are dying or dead.
So far, he hasn’t been able to pull it off. And no, one video using Mandami’s preferred communications shop isn’t enough.
Just my two cents. Happy Friday!
