I just bought Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.

I haven't yet finished Silent Hill f.

I also haven't been playing games all that much.

I think I just made a bad financial decision.

I’ve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so you’re right. So what? Don’t ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again

Another writer shared this m answer from legendary Simpsons writer John Swartzwelder & I’m sharing it as well. I read this interview when I was on Rick & Morty & every single thing I’ve written since then (comics, movies, TV, whatever) like this. Frankly its the only way to write imo

There's probably another viewing where I unearth deeper meaning, but for now, the sincerity of a simple story about a greedy, harsh man raised to be greedy and harsh could face his mortality and learn to embrace family and simple joys and let his life's great work be for the greater good is enough.

The poster for The Phoenician Scheme

Ended a peaceful Sunday with The Phoenician Scheme, another truly fun, funny, and visually stunning Wes Anderson joint that I can't help but be charmed by. The last two Anderson outings have been big ensembles with big ideas, so it's nice to get a more intimate film focused on a few characters.

Couldn't really sleep last night, so at one point I put on A Minecraft Movie to see if it could lull me to sleep but instead it was like dosing myself with a mouthful of candy. What a hyper prologue.

And it wouldn't be Psychonauts without the wonderful character designs of @scottlava.bsky.social! Look at all these great workups: Early Raz, G-Men, Lungfish, and a Megacensor!

My wife pointed out that today was the only day I got to just rest and wind down after our trip. Yesterday we were cleaning the house and I had to take my mom to the clinic.

Then in the evening I had to fence my niece, who decided a duel was necessary after I poorly judged a fashion show.

Two hooded figures with lamps approach a moonlit, isolated cottage.
A woman answers the door.
We have come for the child, says the hooded figure
So soon? she asks
It is time, says the hooded figure.
The woman is distraught. We should never have got him a library card!
What is done cannot be undone, says the hooded figure
We couldn’t see the harm! We just wanted him to enjoy reading!
For most, it ends there, says the hooded figure, turning away and walking into the wilderness
Oh lord, What have I done! says the woman,
the child walks past her and out into the darkness with them.
Do not cry mother.

One of my favorite random discoveries this recent trip was stumbling onto the Asakusa Underground Street, which was featured in Wim Wenders' Perfect Days. We had passed by then doubled back in familiarity, before spotted a small sign pointing the trivia out.

We geeked out pretty hard.

I don't think I take good photos but I quite liked this one of Zenkoji Nakamise Street after a long, misty rain.

Outside of commemorative magnets to fill our fridge, I don't usually buy many things for myself in my trips, but this time I splurged and got myself a hoodie in GU and a bunch of stationaries.

It has been a whole week since I got back from my trip to Nagano and I have once again neglected to share any pics. This is probably our last trip in a long time, but we went there to try and catch cherry blossoms, and by the grace of the gods, we did. It was beautiful and surreal.

Went to get coffee from a small cafe operating at the market. He had Nat King Cole and Dean Martin playing on the speakers, so I got to wait in some good vibes despite sweating like heck in the humid morning.

It gets quite complex towards the end as it piles on some heady sci-fi concepts, but that is, also, part of its strengths, because ultimately it's the human heart and living and connections that collectively drive significant change. A clever show with a lot of heart and lovable characters.

The poster for Just A Bit Espers ("Chotto Dake Esper")

Really liked Just A Bit Espers, which takes that fantasy of power and control that comes with anime-esque ESP and subverts it in smart, satisfying ways. Our heroes only have "just a bit" of power and could really only affect change in small ways - expanded into a strong, resonant central theme.
