I don't think I've ever read a sentence as unappealing as "Jim Caviezel is Jair Bolsonaro."

I remember giving a mini-interview about that after hosting a talkback at the last Ebertfest I went to (I think I was interviewing Eric Roberts?). Do you know if/when the doc is getting a release?

No film festival like it. Glad you could there for the last one.

Frankenstein (1910). Kind of wild to consider that its release is closer in time to the publication of Mary Shelley's 1818 novel than to the present day

Kindle app push notification Still thinking about this book? "The Traitor Baru Cormorant" by Seth Dickinson

Yes you might say I am “still interested” in the book I already purchased yesterday, in the app in which you are advertising it to me, in the ecosystem under which you have all my personal and purchase information, on the device in which you are currently notifying me

Just followed you so we can DM about it. You're the first to ask, so consider them yours!

I did not know that, because I studiously avoided watching both his inaugurations. So strange that anyone who calls themselves a Christian can support him.

THE IMPROVISED SHAKESPEARE COMPANY®

It may not work trying to do this here, but: I mistakenly bought two tickets for the wrong night to see the Improvised Shakespeare Company. If any NYers are interested, lmk & the tix are yours. They make up a play on the spot! Tonight at 7 at Brooklyn Improv in Wmsburg: www.improvisedshakespeare.com

Complicated in that when he touches a Bible the skin on his hand sizzles & dissolves

Yes--we're talking about it on the podcast next week & I hope we disagree on it! I didn't think it worked at all, but I have a hard time getting to the level of "it's pretentious nonsense." I respect that Lowery set a high bar of difficulty for himself, but I'm not sure in the end what it was about.

An Acclaimed Filmmaker Made a Psychological Horror Movie Based on Footage of Taylor Swift. It’s Something Else. Anne Hathaway isn’t the only thing haunted in A24’s new movie.

I'm on record as a David Lowery fan--I adored both A Ghost Story & The Green Knight--but his Mother Mary, a two-hander psychodrama about a haunted pop star's reunion w/ her designer & ex-best friend, never quite gelled for me, much as I admired its imagination & ambition.

Meryl's nice, but can she hit a high C while twirling?

Yes! With a commentary track by Todd Haynes & Christine Vachon, who tells some wild making-of stories about that movie in her memoir.

I was not a fan of Vox Lux at all--this movie, for all its flaws, worked better for me. But yes, glam-pop melodrama should be a required genre for young filmmakers. Velvet Goldmine forever!

I did not know that was their singer's name, but I have such fun memories of bopping to CVB's first album in college.

Love knowing that anyone trying to discover something I've written over the past 20 years is likely to find either nothing or an article by an entirely different person!

Next thing you know I'm accused of disrespecting the Virgin Mary & a crowd of pitchfork-wielding zealots are chasing me.

And also I'm not a screenwriter, though there is one with the same name as me. In short, this result is thoroughly bogus!

Did a quick Google to check if my Mother Mary review had posted to Slate yet & got this amusingly dumb AI result. (Also the part about me writing on MJ Hegar is completely wrong.)
