I got a new passport photo sorted today, and it was quite a sobering experience. It was about the 8th retake when I reluctantly accepted that's *actually* what I look like.
I'm heading home on Thursday. As always, I've loved my time here - big skies and a slower pace.
Batteries suitably recharged; roll on the Summer Term.
Kirkwall Parkrun with my lad. He bagged a PB and was 1st for his age group. Me? I'm still proud to say I'm the FBO - Fastest Baldy in Orkney! 👟💨

It was lovely to spend the first part of the morning talking to the children about my favourite book. A Shepherd's Life by @herdyshepherd.bsky.social is beautifully written and a dear friend; I always make time to catch up each summer.
We are hosting the Brockmoor & Pensnett Showcase Event. It's lovely to put the school at the heart of the community and share what is available for children and families in the local area. We have basketball, rowing, adult education, health & wellbeing, and much, much more.
So, it's the 1st day of the half term, and I'm wide awake by 5.20am.

I don't know whether I should be pleased with this or disappointed that my midlife crisis is so dull.

I contacted a couple of local HTs who started the job today & added them to the WhatsApp group for our corner of Dudley. I then looked through said group; with circa 6yrs, I'm in the top 15% of longest serving HTs.
Made me think - I'd love to see 'average time in post' compared to 10 or 20 yrs ago.

Middle-aged victory - the Christmas jumper still fits.
My phone is like the Ghost of Christmas Past. '7 years ago today!' he will tell me, and then show me photos of my boys from Christmases gone by - meeting Santa, the last nativity, or eagerly opening presents.
And when I see them, I have a heavy feeling in my heart; a longing for moments lost.
NPQEL passed. And tonight, I shall celebrate by drinking two beers and falling asleep on the sofa. 🍻💤

Your post reminded me of this photo from 8 years ago. My youngest was teething, and it was my turn to get up. Thought I'd use the time wisely and mark some books at half 2 in the morning. Three line marking, different coloured pens, and naff all impact. Ah, those were the days!
