"In the place of problem-solving technology, companies have jumped on successive bandwagons like NFTs, the metaverse, and large language models. What these all have in common is that they are not built to really solve a market problem. They are built to make VCs and companies rich"

Beyond fucking parody
"To create the batteries we need to keep the whole world's lights on when the sun goes down and the wind stops blowing, we will need to extract *one seventeenth* of the amount of minerals we burn *every year* in the fossil fuel system" pluralistic.net/2025/09/23/o...
This is how blatantly the #BBC and other news favours Reform.
This is appalling and unbalanced and needs addressing NOW.

In addition I think it's because he's not been seen for a few hours, hasn't tweeted in a few hours, and, for me, the pizza intelligence is blowing up:

@dandouglas.bsky.social Nice to see Edge magazine quoting one of the biggest names in gaming right now, plus also Gabe Newell
Oh yeah, because most of the point of polo is “having the resources to keep the horses, and having drinks with the other people who have the resources”
Which is all taking a very literal and missing the point additions to your initial point about sports as diversion but also practise for war, which I think yeah is quite a good "here's something for you to root for, now that machine guns and nukes make war annoying"
And I almost forgot about the pentathlon, which was specifcally meant to simulate a 1912 POW escape sequence?

(Also Polo is quite obviously officer cavalry training)
I think American football literally started as practice for trench warfare, post WW1
I don't know why this lad is building a subterranean city for cats, but I'm all for it.
meme: two books left book: THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY right book (much fatter and split into blue and red, red is far longer than blue): THE LORD OF THE RINGS TRILOGY IF MERRY & PIPPIN HAD A GUN red: defeating Sauron blue: taking the gun away from Merry and Pippin
i'm sorry for posting facts:
UAC Director Malcolm Betruger says Mars may be on the verge of a "demon crisis" because of some other guy who did something, not him. Adds that he is not tempted at all by the power offered from aligning himself with evil forces after discovering a pathway to Hell and trying to tame its many beasts
He's one of Britain's richest men. So why does Asif Aziz's property company keep leasing London gift shops to overseas students based in abandoned offices or flytipped car parks — before vanishing without paying millions of pounds in taxes? www.londoncentric.media/p/asf-aziz-l...
Four little action figures of various Kaijū, I assume Godzilla, mechagodzilla, king ghidorah & hedorah bowing in shame and holding a press conference to apologise for their city wrecking misdeeds
Once again we find ourselves thinking about the range of kaiju action figures apologising for all their city destroying shenanigans that Bandai released a few years ago
London is over
A Polish friend of mine learned the only 2 facts about swans any Brit knows, then confused them and, gloriously, *forgot they were about swans*, so one day she told me:
"Did you know that the Queen is the only person in England allowed to break your arm?"
When you read this it becomes apparent that Elon Musk is a showman, nothing more. He's not an engineer. The whole thing is an act.
Zelensky probably calculated that he was a goner anyway -- the US was looking for an excuse to cut off support and is aligning itself with Russia. So very little incentive to play nice and -- given that he is a former actor -- a lot of alpha to embarrassing Trump on TV
I worked for a prototyping machine shop that made parts for meta's vr hardware. Some of the worst designed parts I've ever had to manufacture, churned out by a constantly shifting team of designers with absolutely no frame of reference for how much something should cost to make.
For folks that know me as "the blue noise guy", I've put together a 50 minute video that talks about many of the things I've learned in my ~decade long dive into noise and related topics - up to and including our latest paper published days ago at I3D.
Enjoy!

Oh no! Best of luck with your search, and wherever you end up!
The Detroit Tigers bullpen looks like the room in Alien Resurrection where they have all the cloned Ripleys that didn't quite work out, but in this case it's 8 attempts to clone Waingro from Heat from a degraded DNA sample.
I’m so sorry for your loss. His writing was always passionate and amazing, whether long form or on here.
