secondbeatsongs posted: somehow instead of saying "as a treat", I've started using the phrase "for morale", as if my body is a ship and its crew, and I (the captain) have to keep us in high spirits, lest we suffer a mutiny in the coming days. and so l will eat this small block of fancy cheese, for morale. I will take a break and drink some tea, for morale. I will pick up that weird bug, for morale. I'm not sure if it helps, but it does entertain me hidefdoritos replied: OP I hope you know that this changed my life and nearly eliminated my guilt over enjoying things. And I've delighted almost everyone I know with the phrase, leading a few of them to use it back to me. Anyway just letting you know about this little sparkle of wonder. For morale.
Boost your unit's morale with this easy trick discovered by a Brigadier. Enemy generals hate it!
The FCC has banned all new foreign-made routers unless they get an exemption from the Pentagon or DHS
This is precisely how a government sets up the framework to install a backdoor, create a firewall, and switch off the internet when it's convenient for them.
I have a simple solution: just punch everyone wearing ray bans and sooner or later no one will wear them. "but liz not all ray bans are pervert glasses." sorry, gotta break a few eggs to make an omelette. www.wired.com/story/the-ri...
I've said it before: I genuinely consider it a moral imperative that people my age and up bang the drum about what the Internet used to be so those younger know that there's nothing inherent about what it is now. The Internet doesn't have to be this; its culture can and has belonged to people.
2006 internet: RSS feeds, forums, communities of hobby blogs, where people post about interior design, fashion, and music for free
2026 internet: sponsored content, paid partnership, buy my merch, try my supplements, invest in my crypto, click link in bio to unlock the secrets of life for $30
love it, that will be the feature that converts me into using the clipper more often! one small feature that would make it perfect for myself would be an estimate of reading time too
the .mkv file format is cool because when you see it you know it's being used to break the law
sad with the video and article's title sensationalistic framing from 404

this is why you should *never* hit someone with an rpg. it’s dangerous, it’s shitty, and it’s wrong
One of my most deeply held beliefs is that refusing to name truth makes you stupid--literally degrades your intellect.
i hate a just following orders mfer, here's an order for you-- suck my fuckin dick!!
I sat in a fucking court room and heard Apple imply that a naked cartoon banana was somehow inappropriate but somehow Grok non consensually undressing women and children is ok?? www.theverge.com/policy/85990...
Matt Walsh tweeted last year: "We've spent the last 25 years bringing "freedom" and "democracy" to countries around the globe while our own country has been systematically invaded and now our largest cities are run by foreigners and communists. If you want to know why I'm so avowedly non-interventionist, this is why." Then he tweeted today: ""This is a war for oil!!!!!" First of all, the "war" lasted like 90 minutes. Second, going to war to secure vital resources for your own people is totally legitimate. Why should we allow some third world communist shithole to control trillions of dollars worth of oil?"
Laura Loomer tweeted last year: "I’m America First, I don’t support “Regime Change”. I went on @Bannons_WarRoom to talk about Chinese aggression in Venezuela and why we need to designate the Muslim Brotherhood as a foreign Islamic terrorist organization." Then she tweeted yesterday: "Maduro has arrived at the DEA office in Manhattan. He was transported in an armored motorcade after being transported in a blindfold via helicopter & then by plane to New York after his compound in Caracas was raided by US Special Forces. Proud to be an American today! USA 🇺🇸"
Catturd tweeted last year: "Name one U.S. inspired regime change that hasn’t ended in absolute disaster." Then he tweeted yesterday: "Venezuela is now more free than New York City."
Will Chamberlain tweeted last year: "The Republican Party is no longer the party of regime change and endless wars If you want to be its standard-bearer that is a non-negotiable position" Then he tweeted yesterday: "I can think of few better uses of my tax dollars than black-bagging the head of a foreign narco-trafficking organization that enriches itself by addicting and poisoning my fellow Americans"
amazing how the entire machine can pivot within 24 hours. no need to slowly upsell the argument; just issue new marching orders
Do you think the Slack app is going to change its icon to the colors of the Venezuelan flag in support of that country’s people being unjustly attacked by a rogue country, like they did for Ukraine?
I really wish people would stop equating "not selling user data" with privacy. None of the tech giants sell, or even share your data with third parties directly. They would be stupid to, it's their most valuable asset. They hoard it! Doesn't mean they don't collect & use every bit of it themselves.
Buttons are back. Knobs are back. Dumb devices are back. Own-it-forever software is back. Print is back. Personal websites and chronological feeds are back. Touching grass is back. People keep saying 2015, but it’s not far enough. The entire 2010s were a mistake. We must retvrn to… 2009.

This is 404 Media's @jasonkoebler.bsky.social waving at himself through a Flock camera; one of 60 we learned was left exposed to the open internet. Not only could anyone with a link livestream it, but some admin portals were open with no login credentials required.

Facebook made an algorithm that gave Boomers whatever they wanted, and they destroyed democracy, and then all those FB product managers went over to OpenAI and made ChatGPT, and now they've made a chatbot that tells Boomers whatever they want to hear, and... well, this should go great.
