In my (perhaps limited) experience, monitors cannot be reduced just to stats. I say go with what you know you like, despite the price.

Current NIH leadership want you to think they are using rigorous, consistent & scientific processes to screen studies to align them with agency priorities.

But the process that they have put down on paper is a sham.

It’s important to know NIH is not following its own guidance. Here’s why:

Identification of de novo variants from parent-proband duos via long-read sequencing Determining de novo status is often what upgrades a variant from VUS to pathogenic, but it has not been possible without sequencing both biological parents. We developed, extensively evaluated, and ap...

The ultimate goal of wellness consumerism is to shift all responsibility to the individual health consumer who then gets the "freedom" of navigating an unregulated snake oil market.

Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Minneapolis (Official Audio)
Bruce Springsteen - Streets Of Minneapolis (Official Audio) YouTube video by Bruce Springsteen

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

I have not tested it. I strongly think action=error should be default.

A systematic evaluation of highly variable gene selection methods for single-cell RNA-sequencing

Glad to share our benchmark study in Genome Biology on highly variable gene (HVG) selection methods for single-cell RNA-seq. We show that a hybrid strategy performs best, now implemented in the mixhvg R package. rdcu.be/eUfjt

We Let AI Run Our Office Vending Machine. It Lost Hundreds of Dollars. An AI agent ran a snack operation in the WSJ newsroom. It gave away a free PlayStation, ordered a live fish—and taught us lessons about the future of AI.

Gift link, probably the funniest thing the Wall Street Journal has done this year.

His lab was humming with discovery. After one year under Trump, it’s almost silent John Quackenbush built a lab that is at the forefront of human genetics research and bioinformatics. Trump administration cuts have put it in danger of collapse.

This is shocking stuff. John Quackenbush has been brilliant since forever. www.statnews.com/2025/12/05/r...

I do hope that nobody has been given or denied a job/promotion based on their SpringerNature citation counts in the past 15 years.

Yes, that is weird. I for one would rank NAR above Nature Communications if we just focus on journal name.

Today at #ASHG2025 Adam Davidovich will talk about our work on inheritance of DNA methylation patterns in mice with some interesting biology, including (to our knowledge) the first paramutation naturally occurring in mammals.

Identification of de novo variants from parent-proband duos via long-read sequencing While de novo variants cause many Mendelian disorders, their detection currently requires sequencing of the proband and both biological parents. This is not feasible when only one parent is available,...

Looking forward to presenting duoNovo at ASHG this week.

We use long-read sequencing to detect de novo variants without having to sequence both parents. It's conceptually straightforward, and performs very accurately among variants likely to be clinically relevant.
