I challenged someone I know connected to mRNA research on their use of the phrase “COVID is over” They meant COVID had become endemic, not that it had gone away. I pointed out that the general public would interpret “COVID is over” as it was gone. Language matters, especially in public health.
CBC News article. Headline: “Hospitalization rates for illnesses like COVID, flu have doubled since pre-pandemic, report finds.” By Lauren Pelley, April 16, 2026. Subheading notes vaccine-preventable respiratory infections are sending thousands to hospital while vaccine uptake declines. Image shows a hospital patient lying in bed with medical lines attached, while a healthcare worker wearing gloves adjusts equipment near the patient’s arm.

“People assume that COVID-19 is done … but what our data is showing is that it’s still having a big impact on our hospitals”

The City of Vancouver has just announced they had a $530 million surplus last year.
It follows a $860 million surplus the year before, and years of $300+ surpluses.
It's the annual reminder that when local politicians say times are tough, they're usually being misleading to suit their agendas.
Actual quote from Poilievre's speech today:
"If you asked a neutral and objective AI bot to go into all of the policies on the books of the government of Canada, what would you find has actually changed in the last year?"
There is no such thing as a "neutral and objective" bot.
Absolute clown show.
“Mark Carney first came to global fame during the 2008 financial crisis when, together with a small group of ambitious and highly skilled colleagues, he designed the regulatory framework that would define and strengthen banking and finance for decades.”

In Question Period, Poilievre and his caucus have flat-out lied and said that the clean fuel standard is just a rebranded carbon tax, when it's not a tax or a charge at all, but a hypothetical estimation of how much it might cost refiners to meet that standard.

"”Gripen data will also be housed here, securely within Canadian borders," Fullerton said. "With the fighter mission system, communications and technical data all hosted in Canada, Gripen exceeds all industrial, security and controlled goods requirements.”

Nothing to see here.
Have you tried WordroW? It’s similar to Wordle but run by The Walrus (🇨🇦) instead of NYT (🇺🇸).
Yes! Coop housing, coop grocery stores with gas stations and pharmacies…. Membership run, community benefiting, non-corporate/profit driven services.
We have one co-op grocery store with multiple gas stations locations. I’d never even heard of a co-op grocery store until we moved here and it seems like such a good addition to a community.
And yet we see it all the time, particularly coffee shops, gas stations, liquor stores, pharmacies, and most places (even smaller municipalities) have multiple grocery stores.
As do school PACs/DPACs/BCCPAC. Volunteer positions have become harder and harder to fill. Even school boards struggle to attract qualified people and they offer a (small) stipend.
Yes, those clauses affect all competition and I would imagine it would feel like a larger hurdle to a co-op board than a corporation.
How do we inform communities that it’s an option? It’s strange to me that more don’t already exist. Are corporate grocery stores obstructing them in some way? I recall seeing a report on CBC that corporate grocery stores sometimes place anti-competition clauses in the lease agreements.
How do we get more local co-ops across Canada? Gas stations, liquor stores, grocery stores, home and building, and pharmacy. All working for, and owned by, local members. #CDNPoli

Reproductive justice is being rolled back across the world, making it all the more important to celebrate B.C.’s “wildly successful” free contraceptives program, said Teale Phelps Bondaroff, District of Saanich councillor and co-founder of AccessBC. #bcpoli
This is genuinely terrifying and horrifying. Pseudoscience over science.
