When @epoehler.bsky.social and I were first using the Luna image server, we thought it was cool that you could adjust contrast & brightness, invert colors, etc. Now working in the new PALP image dialog box: p-lod.github.io/palp-client-... , click an image, click "Adjust". Can bring out detail.

Writing a bit personally… Development is getting to a coherent state for new PALP Browser. Vision becoming clear. Need captions, credits, & links in image dialog box. And improve hierarchical browser for space and the concept vocab. Then I believe @epoehler.bsky.social and I will choose to release.

Image dialog box with arrow icons.

Left & Right arrow keys now allow moving through the image gallery when the image dialog box is showing. With highlighting of image gallery and map. Try snake: p-lod.github.io/palp-client-... .

Moving along with development... Image modal dialog box now draggable and resizable. (Suggest background shouldn't darken and maintain geojson highlight.)

Not done but earliest versions of hierarchical browser and of model image pop start to show where @epoehler.bsky.social and I want to go. Try this room in House of Menander w/Homeric scenes. p-lod.github.io/palp-client-... . There are issues as interactions become complex. Time to settle those down.

@epoehler.bsky.social and I thinking about PALP image<->map interaction. Try p-lod.github.io/palp-client-... . Hover over image to highlight location. Hover on map to auto-scroll to an image. Zoom in on map and you may be prompted to hold down alt/option key for auto-panning. You'll see what I mean.

P.s. Code at github.com/p-lod/palp-c... . And full disclosure: Much vibe coding going on. I bootstrapped by pointing at the JSON from the api at api.p-lod.org/docs .

I may use this thread to talk about development of the new PALP UI. We'll see if it gains traction. Under the hood, the panes now have positional names. That is on way to auto-chosen contextualized content and user selection of different "widgets" within a pane. Plus images now at lower right.

Testing new UI for Pompeii Artistic Landscape (PALP). Try p-lod.github.io/palp-client-... . Earliest stages! Slow! Barest functionality! But "Type Ahead" beginning to work. Try 'ar...' or 'ha..." in input in header. You might have to hit return even after choosing word. cc @epoehler.bsky.social

I think it probably matters that Trump thinks SCOTUS has said he’s immune from prosecution for war crimes. But is he? Not overseas, right? And SCOTUS may not have intended that? Terrible opinion. Poorly reasoned. So who knows?? And subordinates not at all immune? Again, terrible judicial opinion.

This is a five-alarm fire for our democracy and our future.

Democrats have to step up and meet the moment.

Our current congressmember isn't getting the job done.

Strike over. Or rather, "paused". An effective labor action. You can see the Tentative Agreement at docs.google.com/spreadsheets... . More than money was involved but the "Compensation" article was one of the last documents to reach its final (tentative, needs a vote) form. That was to be expected.

CFU-UAW Bargaining Tracker [PUBLIC]

As of 11:00AM, I am on strike. Along with my colleagues in the NYU Contract Faculty Union. We've been pretty transparent about issues being negotiated. See docs.google.com/spreadsheets... . Interesting set of documents. I happen to be out of city but will be on a picket line tomorrow. 🪧✊ #Solidarity

Now a 7th century mosaic. In situ. The chapel of Ss. Primus and Felicianus in Santo Stefano Rotondo. A small semi-dome. Then I turn around and take a photo across the round nave. It’s a lovely spot.

Oh no. Missed this. And I think had gone across to Palazzo Massimo by time sent. I'd say next time but that may not work with editorial schedule? P. Altemps tomorrow.

The display of the records of the Arval Brethen is great. Nice of them to to say whose records these are. And to “keep up” with events of 69 CE. And then limping to the end by reusing slabs in 304 CE… Though I’m in Diocletian’s baths. Nothing limping about those.
