Paul Goldsmith, asked whether he accepts that te Tiriti is Aotearoa's founding document, says he accepts that it was the document that was signed at its founding. A careful pseudo-acceptance that is actually a refusal #racist

Luxon’s attempt to refocus the media is constitutionally misplaced. Confidence is the lifeblood of government. And the media have a legitimate interest in interrogating changing dynamics in confidence.

I really look forward to the moment, which will no doubt be captured on camera, in which the media repeatedly ask him about it, he tries in vain to find a reporter who wants to ask something else, and then storms off as the camera focuses on the back of his disappearing head. Masterful strategy.

Nothing raises questions like a PM saying that he won't tell you how many of his friends still like him.

Luxon surviving a confidence vote is less about his fitness for the job and more about the unfitness of his caucus, who lack even the minimal amount of spine needed to roll the most inept PM we’ve seen in my lifetime.

You have to question the wisdom from the Nat’s campaign manager of claiming to know what New Zealanders are focused on when the polls are quite literally telling you one of the things they are focused on his your govt’s poor performance.

Quite frankly this is a side show which New Zealanders are not focused on. What they're focused on is the issues that matter to them, paying for their fuel bill, getting to work, making sure that they are safe on their streets, that we reduce waiting lists in our hospitals, that we get our kids back to school.

"Those are the issues that matter to New Zealanders. Those are the issues that we as a National Party are focused on."

The mere fact they won’t admit the issue exists at all makes it all the more obvious that the issue exists. Here’s Simeon Brown doing his best (which is not very good) “nothing to see here”.

"I just say to the prime minister that New Zealanders are not going to tolerate unfettered immigration, ruining our foundation culture and clogging our services at a time we can hardly afford to upgrade the infrastructure that New Zealand has.
"The media will never cancel the Dalmatian Māori because he uses hyperbole and dismiss it as racism. Kiwis are flocking to my cause. Immigration, unfettered, unmitigated, has had a lot of negative impacts," Jones said.

This dickhead isn’t modelling himself after Winston Peters. He’s modelling himself after Brian Tamaki. “Kiwis are flocking to my cause.” Ugh.

I really don’t know who all these Nat MPs think they’re fooling by acting as though a clear trend of disastrous polling for both the party and its leader is some kind of irrelevant media beat up.

'Volatile': Severe weather events lead to big leap in insurance claims A record number of storms battered the country over the past year.

46 climate related events in just the last year, up from 29 the year prior.
That’s a severe weather event every 8 fucking days in AotearoaNZ. They scrapped all climate related action, raided billions from the resiliency fund & doubled down more fossil fuel. #nzpol

ANALYSIS: Government set to reduce Treaty in legislation to lowest possible standard - what it means Sweeping changes to Treaty clauses across 23 laws could lower te Tiriti to its weakest legal standard, reshaping how it influences decisions in health, environment and beyond.

yes we've all been frothing with the coup, meanwhile Mani Dunlop is out here reporting on this fuckery and what it means.

State of local emergency declared in Ruapehu District amid possible ‘life-threatening’ flooding Civil Defence made the declaration at 4.43am after heavy rain caused slips and flooding overnight.

Over the past ten years NZ has averaged 55.9 days annually under a State of Emergency each year, and 66.6 days over the last five. In the 10 years prior to this, NZ averaged only 13.4 days per year.

Consider the implications of central government continuing to refuse to believe in climate change.

You’d like to think that climate change and all its associated issues would be a major election issue but I dunno, this country can be so ridiculously weird that you just can’t tell.

Seriously when you all say the same thing it’s pretty obvious you’ve been briefed on what to say and that is a crafted message that it’s not Luxon failing here but all of you. And you know what, I don’t think you’ll find much disagreement with that.

The updated version of this story is just wall-to-wall senior ministers repeating a presumably mandated line that “we all need to do better” and I’m sorry I thought your whole schtick was that you guys were doing just great, were in control, making the hard choices, turning the economy around.

“Forty-eight hours ago, we were able to form a coalition government that had a 10-MP majority over the opposition. Then fast forward 48 hours, you're telling me that your viewers want to put Labour, the Greens and Te Pāti Māori into power. That's the inconsistency that sits in those polls.”

Yeah it only talks about the benefits of their lifestyle and none of the minuses, which is a common thread in most of these types of stories. Things are only minor inconveniences, not the actual major deal breakers they’d be for most people.
