That CPB money made up 25% of WOUB’s total budget. Not sure what happens next, but this funding cut will affect us more than stations in metropolitan areas.
Thanks, Emily.
Sitting with my dad in the hospital as he receives end-of-life comfort care. As a teacher and coach, he had a positive impact on so many lives. As a father, he was my role model. A truly great guy. I’m going to miss him.
“Milquetoast quisling” is a great description.
It will affect public media affiliates in rural areas (so-called “media deserts”) which rely on a greater percentage of federal funds. Without it, programs will be removed from schedules, there will be staff layoffs, and some stations will have to cease operations. I work at one of those stations.
Public stations in rural areas rely on a larger percentage of the federal funding. (I work at one). Some of those won’t survive — listener/viewer donations won’t be enough.
Public media stations around the country are anxiously awaiting the results of today’s House vote that could claw back $1.1 billion from public broadcasting.
I've been working in public broadcasting for nearly 30 years. There have been funding threats/challenges in the past, but nothing like this. Visit protectmypublicmedia.org to make your voice heard.
I don't regret deleting my FB account. At all.
Using Bluesky as a news aggregator, that's pretty much it. Honestly, you're the only person I know IRL who uses it regularly (along with @ekprince.bsky.social).
Is that a 97X shirt?
Pretty accurate so far.
Been a couple weeks for me, and I haven't missed FB, Instagram or Threads at all. Thought it would feel weird to unplug from all that bullshit, but it's actually been really great.
Oh hell, sure. Add me.
When I interviewed Dave Alvin for Q, I asked him about a recording session he did with David Lynch, and it was everything I wanted the anecdote to be, because there is not much I enjoy more than stories of David Lynch sounding exactly like David Lynch should sound.
