This had been driving me up the wall. I’ve worked across a bunch of different civil service departments, and all it takes is one letter from an MP and that immediately jumps to the top of the pile with pressure on. To pretend otherwise is just completely disingenuous.

'No, pressure existed!'
I realise that they all know the reasons, and that it’s individually out of their control, but collectively they’ve got enough reach and contacts with people in positions of power to actually address arts education & policy in the country.
I really wish that big arts organisations would take a step back and look at how many ‘bring the art to the people’ type initiatives we’ve had in this country, without really taking action as to why we need to keep having initiatives to bring art to people.
Salmon heard shouting ‘YOUGOTTAGETINTROCRYPTOBRO’ as it swam upstream.
Aw, that’s beyond kind - thank you so much!
I genuinely had to alter it to make it look less like a cubist dick.
I’m classing good design as a separate thing, as that’s essential! This is a ‘you need to fit in ideally 1 one overlap as a bare minimum, but ideally more’, though definitely agree theatrical is the best to aim for.
Oh god, I’m worried that I’ve oversold that (it’s my own thing), but anyone giving it even a cursory glance will know exactly what it is meant to be. I’ve had a *lot* of e-mails with the legal team, ha!
I’m going to be able to talk about one of my next projects soon, and basically it’s ‘I am 45 years old, and I’ve spent the last 16 months finally making my peace with the fact that I deeply, deeply love Batman’.
I recently had to explain to someone what makes a good Batman villain, and here’s what I came up with.
Praising JK Rowling when asked a question on trans rights is akin to praising Anita Bryant when asked a question gay rights. No money to Stonewall. No Stonewall at Pride. They are already experiencing a funding crisis, and this chairwoman appointment should be their last. Traitors.
I remember seeing an interview with one of the victim’s dads, and I’ll never, ever be able to comprehend the sheer horror those poor families have been forced through from both the original trauma, and what ghouls like Jones unleashed on them afterwards.
One of the Sandy Hook families lives in hiding 1500 mi away from their baby’s grave due to people stalking them.
The graves of multiple children have been defaced.
One of the fathers had to submit DNA evidence to prove his son was a REAL HUMAN BEING after Alex Jones’ book said he never existed.
There’s many, many, many failings that you can level at the US comic book market, but ‘bad at front covers’ is just not one of them. It’s one of their biggest strengths.
I’ll genuinely never get over the fact that - post the supercharging of mRNA funding due to covid, we’re suddenly getting a *lot* of huge medical breakthroughs on stuff that was previously a death sentence - as a species we’ve seen that miracle, and gone ‘naw, let’s do more war’
I think it’s telling that, whilst horror always does well enough, it’s being doing better than usual at the cinema over the last few years. Horror cinema can sustain tension over its running time in a way that TV very rarely ever can.
I feel like doctors could save everyone a lot of time with a simple ‘Are you, or have you ever, engaged in the production of comics in any form?’ question.
Yeah, actually, scratch that first point.
Mark your calendars! Should be a great discussion…
How the hell do you even do that? Isn’t that just writing the script for them?
2 things:
- I think he’s going worm his way through, though that alone is a death blow
- I was rewatching some Kenan & Kel recently, and god they were good
The UK right now.
It’s a genuinely galaxy brain move for anyone, let alone the PM, to throw anyone from the civil service under the bus because - unless you have every single t crossed & i dotted - it’s literally their job to keep receipts and have very, very long memories.
My 9 year old is incredibly fond of shouting ‘I’m escaping to the one place that hasn’t been corrupted by capitalism’ before running off.

To state the obvious: I suspect most Labour MPs will be hoping that he clings on until 7th May.
Successive governments have taken that approach to childhood.
Literally everywhere you look there's warning signs about children: mental health crisis, employment rates when leaving school, reading for pleasure rates, free play, rising rates of eating disorders, access to nature, the list goes on.
Let me tell you about how maddening it is to work in the criminal justice system: I think moreso than any other civil service dept, you are conscious that everything policy is dictated not by evidence based outcomes, but by a minister's ability to give a nice sounding soundbite in an interview.
