next on Gateway playing songs from 1984, the year we watched 'We Love TV' on LWT & tried to get those tricky questions about television programmes right. My gues is presenter & personality Gloria Hunniford.
A serial strangler, a whodunnit, inneffective police, paranoia, a 'mother' fixation, & a fashion faux pas...THAT green dress & scarf...eek! Several female fatalities. None of the men in this come out of it very well. Abrupt ending, the final shot could have been trimmed off. #BrianClemensThriller
'The Little Black Bag' had previously also been dramatised for 'Out of the Unknown' (BBC2)
I'm just looking at the morning stuff on LWT. I used to watch 'Tandarra', an Australian series. And in the evening 'Island of Adventure' is 'The Swiss Family Robinson' Irwin Allen version retitled. #BrianClemensThriller π
LWT that night from 'The Times' - New Faces just before #BrianClemensThriller and repeats of Upstairs Downstairs at 9.15 (which Yorkshire I think showed on Sunday afternoons)
'Night Gallery' Rod Serling anthology on at 11.45pm if you can stay awake. π #BrianClemensThriller
Wow! 'The Persuaders!' is on at 5.15pm I see. Yorkshire still burning off repeats as late as 1976. Great to see the offerings in your part of the world @martinmauthor1.bsky.social #BrianClemensThriller.
Yorkshire TV Times for the evening of Sat Apr 17 1976
The full #YorkshireTelevision line-up for that evening #BrianClemensThriller
I think I can see 'Upstairs Downstairs' on at 9.30pm? #BrianClemensThriller π
So how did London Weekend play it that night @martinmauthor1.bsky.social ? When did they schedule 'New Faces' if they had #BrianClemensThriller at 8.15pm since I wasn't in London that week? I'm trying to see in the small print bottom left of the page...lol. π
Tonight I delve into another classic #BrianClemensThriller, & a rewatch of 'The Next Victim', exactly 50-years plus one day on. Today I still have my complete ATV edition of TV Times I bought that week while on my Easter holiday when I watched it in b/w, & in the later 9.15pm time slot. π
The pic of Paul Foster in the TV Times was the one that was used for one of the UFO jigsaw puzzles. π
Yep, should be on Encore. π
It was. It helps if I read things correctly π Hopefully on TPTV Encore.
As I understand it, Michael Billington was quickly drafted in to replace Franco Derosa who was originally to play the regular Moonbase Commander, but quickly dropped due to his poor attitude on set. Michael was cast by Rose Tobias Shaw who had hired him previously for an episode of The Prisoner.
April 12th is significant in Gerry Anderson's UFO as it is the only specific date noted on screen. In the episode "Survival" we learn that astronaut Bill Grant was killed on April 12th 1981. The episode marked the production debut of Michael Billington as Paul Foster who searches for the killer.
I think that was on this morning @jabberwocky65.bsky.social #BrianClemensThriller
Iβve never heard of this Brian Clemens penned film on Talking Pictures TV tonight. The plot definitely sounds like a #BrianClemensThriller episode. @martinmauthor1.bsky.social @rozzyc.bsky.social
Just found it in the readers recollections bit on the THRILLER website. π #BrianClemensThriller
"Marvellous". How old are thes postings @jabberwocky65.bsky.social ? #BrianClemensThriller
.. and I found my comment right above that of @rozzyc.bsky.social Thatβs as spooky as Someone at the Top of the Stairs π
A great watch this evening. 'Sleepwalker'. It moves along at quite a pace & the whole thing is over before you know it. The two main characters are likeable & the maid is shifty throughout. Is this the only episode that employs camera tricks? Love the ripple/dream sequences. #BrianClemensThriller
Ah yes, the Granada Ventures DVDs containing only series one. I have got it but not looked at it since purchasing the Network set containing all 43. #BrianClemensThriller.
Yes, utilising a publicity still from 'Spell of Evil'. The original Granada (Carlton) S1 DVD set went for the overtly 'horror' motif too - all down to the marketing bods no doubt as 'horror' was one of the key cover art themes of 'sell-thru' (sic) going back to the early 80s and rental videos.
Some of the international DVD versions released have weird packaging & imaging. A lean towards horror I would say with this one. Is this picture from 'Spell of Evil' ? #BrianClemensThriller
Ah yes. Dave Young in Sydney bless him. IIRC he sent me some tapes of several ATV versions from Europe, English language but with subtitles. They were very interesting to see at the time. Also the 'Good Salary...' film recording from Bravo which I had missed when it was on. #BrianClemensThriller
It was a challenge, but fun! About a decade later, tape swapping with Australia - where the series was being extensively repeated in TVM format - filled a lot of gaps in British fans collections. #BrianClemensThriller
Ian was very helpful with copies of 'Spell of Evil' ("a bad case of heartburn for that witch"), 'Terror from Within', & 'Dial a Deadly Number', recorded from various channels like TSW, HTV, & Granada. The sheer desperation & frustration of trying to see these things back then #BrianClemensThriller.
2/2 Some region didn't appear in as much in the national press and TVT were rare - like Ulster - so it's possible many were missed. Also, undoubtedly some TVM repeats aired as late replacements for other programming e.g. during news or sport events and may never have been billed.
