The first of the shortlisted poets to read is Paul Farley (When It Rained for a Million Years). Our Young Critic Molly Knox described the collection as ‘a surprising and beautiful uncovering of what time is lost when a sound becomes so sustained we cease hearing it’

Collage of orange and green images of fern plants overlayed over each other at various levels of translucency. Text overlaying image reads: the year the ferns sang reliance cold music the year the ferns sang there was a winding music a frozen answer r e l i a n c e I heard the lungs of ever hillside dream my breath held the unfamiliar pedalled notes I knelt under time's branches. Top left text reads: 'Ferns' and 'Ferns II'. Bottom right text reads : Molly Knox (C)
Molly Knox's 'Ferns' and 'Ferns II' is a collage of memory layered over an ancient and evergreen plant. @mollykmoon28.bsky.social
