They asked for a conspiracy theory, not a solid, concrete truth.

Hilarious. I wish I had seen that when you posted it.
In fairness, I'd bet that Topps took that photo for its 1983 set during 1982!
That fact was not lost on me! It's like today's uniforms are a Champ Summers homage! ;-)
Champ Summers from the 1983 Giants would love playing for this Detroit Tigers team.
Even in that case, it wouldn't be out of the realm of what you describe if it happened. Because he'd give up that 3-run shot and then strike out 14 of the next 15 hitters. He's quickly become "must see TV" for me as a guy living in Atlanta.
This is just depressing to watch, follow, or even hear about.
Fascinating story. Also, the writing was excellent--which isn't something I say about stories on the internet that frequently. Great stuff!

I'm excited today because I realized that a conference I have to attend in my role as chair of the ABA Forum on Construction Law is in Chicago at the same time as the National. So my flight to Chicago and at least one hotel night cost will be covered for me as a result!
I feel like that photo deserves a "go Dawgs!"
Just remember--in vino veritas
I didn't know men over 50 were allowed to own any shorts *other* than cargo shorts.
I did a thing again
Whose article is the "5 Changes" article? There's no byline on it.
I have 3 of the 4 printing plates for Jonathan Lucroy's 2016 Topps. I have yellow, magenta, and black, and I am only missing the cyan printing plate so that I could start reprinting them.

If I could collect every police card, I'd consider it quite the accomplishment!
And then you can't even get to the 1/1s!
I love that you cited to my work in that podcast. Good stuff!
Listen to my baseball card proliferation rant based on the conversation I had with @offhiatusbbc.bsky.social
The Milwaukee Brewers mourn the passing of Davey Lopes
Hilariously, I just had this conversation with my associates (both of whom are under the age of 30) about how so many TV shows through the 1980s used quicksand as a comic/dramatic trope...and then how that use seemingly disappeared.
@nightowlcardz.bsky.social The Brewers are doing "baseball card bobbleheads" this year...featuring the 1975 Topps design.
Just wait till he trades a third-round pick for Stetson Bennett IV. LOL
And that is just Topps. Looking at Panini Prizm, there are 124 insert sets and 32 parallels. Donruss has 128 insert sets and 77 parallels. Panini Select has 144 insert sets and 39 parallels.
As unlicensed, I care very little about them...yet I feel compelled to buy if they are cheap at a show
As an aside, something just as overwhelming is how many cards each *star* player has.
Example: of the 16,770 cards from 2025, 2,731 of those are Jackson Chourio.
Not to mention the parallels of inserts and the parallels of the subsets of the inserts.
I have gotten to where I am only actively seeking the "base" inserts and the parallels where finding the cards is realistic.
I know I enjoy the chase in finding Brewers cards, but the chase is overwhelming when there is no hope of getting anywhere close to a feeling of being "done."
What do y'all think--is this massive increase--with 52 times more cards available in 2025 than 1981 and 8.5 times more than 2000--a good thing, a bad thing, or just "something" as it relates to trying to be a team collector?
