Happy Christmas to all, but especially to those who this Christmas find themselves part of the GCIM yet unfulfilled, lonely and angry. May they find peace and may we will be here to acknowledge and be at their side because we above all know how hard it is to become one's, real, true, self.
We know the peace, the happiness and the fulfilment which can come from self-acceptance. I for one hope they start to find that in 2026 their challenges become a lighter burden to bear. I hope we will be willing to forgive, when the time comes, and that we will realise that hate is self-defeating.
Lets hope to ‘God’ or whatever sense of higher significance we have, that their anger gives way, that they find some personal peace and move on to more fulfilled futures. As trans people we have been on that journey, surely, or at least we see some common reference?
As 2025 ends. I hope we can take a moment this Christmas to glance THEIR way and away from ourselves just for a day. Let's see THEIR pain amid ours, see THEIR similarity with us in their gender conflicts and challenges.
We do not know where they have been, what traumas they have had. It is hard for them if they appear to be trans or intersex or ’not feminine’ or ’not manly’ yet face requirements to conform to appearance and behavioural requirements rooted in sex but which are are vital to acceptance in their world.
They present as they do, in my view, to avoid difficult conversations about of the sort we as trans people have had to face and overcome. We owe it to them in my view to challenge the myth they present of who they are, and to do so compassionately to them. They are self-harming. They need help.
These people who became caught up in it are however not objects or fictions or animals or fungi: they are humans too like us. We tend to forget this sometimes.
Like a Cordyceps fungus it took control of the minds of more than one or two politicians whose brains were admittedly under-utilised, and in need of a little leadership to start with.
No more poorly disguised use of ambiguous language to make people with wildly different views feel as if they are part of a movement sharing one ideology.
At last we know what we face. No more hiding behind the limited notion of an uncontroversial ‘protected belief’ about sex being different from gender identity, but instead a bold fresh army on the march, hectoring about women’s roles, flags waving into U-bends of toilets.
The Gender Critical Ideological Movement, a rather sinister spin-off of innocuous things about wanting to debate ‘sex’ and ‘gender’ and so forth finally came to the prominence in the UK this year.
We help others to leave once we have put down roots. Jolly good for us… but lets not be smug and let’s think about other people just for one day, the 25th December which as I write is today.
This year TEN was born, on the 8th April 2025 but the plans had been in place 2 years before. Now we are an active pipeline and Trans+ people and non-conforming people and families are getting out where they can from the UK to safer, better lives overseas.
