I finally got kicked out of the discord server of the indie studio I was an intern at like half a year ago ๐

Guess why I haven't posted anything recently: That's right! Because buisy-ness doesn't allow me to make video games at the time!
Spoiler: I didn't. ๐
But what about my platformer? Shouldn't I at least finish that one before? I don't know. I'm still deciding on what project is worth more persuading at the time. Aarrggh! ๐ซ
Maybe I just shrink the scope of the platformer way down to a microscopic level just to finally finish a game?

Do you know the game #NeighboursBackFromHell (Neighbours from Hell in the original)? Probably not. But oh boy, I do. The original devs went bankrupt, so there will probably never be another sequel. Do you see where I'm getting at? Yes, I had the idea to make a similar game like it in modern times.
I'm suddenly really drawn to the idea of boldly making use of a controller's full range of features. ๐ฎ
Too bad you had to abandon it. I don't usually play shooters, but this looks very appealing. And the gyro controls are really impressive and innovative for the genre!
Unfortunately, I couldn't attend #GMTK2025 because I was traveling. ๐ถโ๐ซ๏ธ Well, at least I have time for the upcoming Brackeys.
unfortunately, I don't have the (working) version without it anymore. But I wonder if it even was the right decision in the first place...
back to my platformer project: Is it just me or should I've just gone with the "janky" player movement code rather than trying to make it "clean" with state machine logic? I mean there are like only 3 different movements and once I'll have the player movement I like never have to extent it again. ๐ค
Tomorrow's my first day as a Level Design intern. ๐
I've got a game dev internship for next week. ๐
I have to try this myself, looks amazing
what makes it frustrating to get working on my game project again is that I now have to restore everything like it was before with the new code system...
Well, that's what you call revamping.๐ซ

not only did you make me get into git, but also made me switch to Linux on my secondary device. ๐
Ew
Maybe I have to learn it the hard way some day. ๐
love it
Thanks, that really helps!
One of my long term dreams is to someday make a Nintendo exclusive. Financially illogical? I know. Cool nonetheless.
I just see some problems with it. It's definitely mandatory if you're making a fighting game with lots of attacks and combinations, but for my 2d platformer it could be a bit... over the top? It also gets a bit janky if functionality of multiple states "stacks".
That's one way to do it
Let's see if I'll learn from my mistakes. ๐
As for now the state machine version isn't really that much cleaner to work with in my case. Maybe It's going to be a long term payoff.
Do you sometimes (or systematically) delete old backups?
I'm curious: How often do you backup your game project? Like every day?
I haven't really backed mine up at all for now, but I'm a bit worried to shed many tears when I'll make more progress and bugs happen more frequently. ๐ฌ

two-mice? This would probably work great on Switch 2!
I made a prototype with already a fair amount of functionality, just to scrap the whole player movement and rewrite it with state machine logic.
That feeling kinda sucks tbh. โน๏ธ

I'm currently prototyping and haven't really done much concept either, because there's a lot of other stuff for me to do... in life. In August I'll probably get to work more on it.
I don't have much to say about my game yet, besides that it's made in #godot and is about a cool duck in an eggshell. Oh yeah, did I mention already it's a 2d platformer? ๐ค
