As with so many towns in England, there’s so much fab Victorian-to-prewar architecture extant from the first floor upwards, though street level has been utterly ruined by awful, tasteless, unregulated commercial frontage style, horrible signage etc. Goole no different. Look up though, and wow.

Update on Goole. Back again this morning. Started badly with a prolonged ‘punishment scowl’ from a driver I caused to stop momentarily by pulling out on him.

Improved greatly on chatting to a council emp who was hand-brushing cobwebs and dust off a decorative brick course.

I’m left with the impression based on what I’ve heard to date that Robbins should probably be restored to an essential role in the CS and that the ‘fate’ of the PM should probably be decided by the PLP and most certainly not by any of the ‘oppo’.

And that Lee Anderson should go and milk a goat.

Land is not permanent - but we think it is Entire civilizations depend on something that is subject to change and over which humans have no control.

We expect our cities to last forever. Yet the land on which we build them is constantly changing. Our folly, perhaps, is to think that only we have the right to reshape land.

He might find himself spending even more time overseeing that investigation he seemed to have agreed in the House to set up into the possible national security breaches that *may* have occurred during Lord M’s one year tenure as Ambassador. I imagine that would involve a lot of Rolodexes and that.

ZS should have called for a mobility scooter at that point, and rolled out, with an electrical whirr, compliant.

Compare the story

“Britain showed 0.5% (yes, half of one hundredth part) growth”

with

“Britain will be great again with our leadership!”

The ‘media’ feeds on stories. Some stories sell; others don’t.

Much of the electorate doesn’t respond to numbers, statistics, percentages, ranks.

Disaster nationalists deal instead in chunked qualitative stories that people recognise and remember: ‘Britain is broken’, ‘Stop the boats’, “They” are replacing/invading/ripping off/betraying “us”’.

A cry for help featuring this hapless commonly misidentified target from someone in #Goole, a hollowed out and forgotten town of the North.

Goole is replete with Union Jacks cable-tied to lamp-posts, so at least that should cheer folk up.

The concept of a ‘Team Player’ does not sit comfortably with many here. I wonder what it’s like with footie. Is individual flair more valued than team consciousness? Are we a nation of snooker, darts and other pursuits featuring ‘individual stardom’?

Businesses seem to be different.

It’s a taste of patrician Roman excess, for sure. I often wonder what happens to the leftovers. Maybe dogs belonging to the staff do well.

Recently I was interested to see how a mid-sized (25 covers) B&B operation handled its buffet. Seemed to be a combo of estimates of each element to start …

It might (and in bleaker moments does) seem that this Govt is ‘tantamount’ to an anti-trans pressure group, but … they still make the law and pressure groups pressure.

This isn’t to defend the Govt (I’m not inclined to) but to defend the value of counter-pressuring Govt.

1 day ago 0 0 0 0

Govt is the target of lobbying, not the lobbyist. Threats to trans lives currently stem from legal sources (e.g. a ‘ruling’ by judges on the interpretation of a law) and a majority government exercises direct influence on the law-making assembly itself.
In that shape or form, they’re different.

Couldn’t we see a rolling average (the period of one year ending at today’s measurement point) of carbon intensity, as well as the point value as posted, for comparison with the ‘target’ annual average also posted?
