Big credit to the brilliant postdoc Mariapia Giuditta Cratere (and her resilience) and to the rest of the team 💪, Benedetta Perrone and Céline Schaeffer at @unisr.bsky.social and Ospedale San Raffaele, and to our collaborator Barbara Canciani at Ospedale Galeazzi - Sant'Ambrogio.

Our study indicates that calorie restriction can counteract the primary effect of #UMOD mutations and uncovers its potential as a valuable therapeutic option in the context of ADTKD-UMOD, and possibly other proteinopathies.

At early disease stage, calorie restriction largely reverted ADTKD-UMOD phenotype, preventing inflammation, fibrosis and kidney function decline. At advanced disease stage, it significantly delayed disease progression and worsening of kidney function.

In a mouse model of #ADTKD-UMOD, moderate calorie restriction restores autophagy, reduces ER retention of mutant #uromodulin, and significantly delays kidney disease.
