Quite an array of protestors outside the Jacinda Ardern book event - also a huge line of punters waiting to get thru security.
I just spoke to Nicola Willis from DC, where's she's meeting White House officials tomorrow.
Willis is planning to:
- Make clear how concerned NZ is about the conflict
- Ask when US sees things returning to 'normal'
- Raise the ramifications for the Pacific

MBIE say the reason they aren't talking about ships outside of the three week window because they only talk about ships that are already en route to NZ, and that is about the length of time it takes.
They say ships are expected in May but won't share details.

finished DEATH IN VENICE last night - haunting!
Statement which you can attribute to Foreign Minister Winston Peters: New Zealand welcomes the announcements by the United States and Iran over the past few hours - as we welcome all efforts to bring an end to this conflict. While this is encouraging news, there remains significant important work to be done in the coming days to secure a lasting ceasefire. We are grateful for the work of Pakistan, and others such as Turkiye and Egypt, to seek to find a solution to the crisis. As we discussed with Secretary of State Marco Rubio today, this conflict has had wide-ranging impacts and disruptions - for both those in the Middle East and further afield including in New Zealand and the Pacific region. In the coming days and weeks, New Zealand will stand in support of all efforts to bring about a lasting, durable end to this conflict.
Winston Peters welcomes ceasefire announcement, but says significant work to be done to secure a lasting ceasefire:

Christopher Luxon says NZ still does not have a view on the bombing of the school in Iran. He says he has seen the reporting on the US investigations into it (which found the US was at fault) but it is up to them to explain their actions.
Just finished this lovely book about the many stumbling paths that texts from antiquity took to the renaissance. occasionally more detail about varying versions of translations than I really wanted, but came together very well at the end - in Venice!

“Doesn’t matter who the chair is when the PM is still a dud.”
ideally just do a single fare for everyone and increase peak performance massively but this seems like a good starting point
i have a free idea for the metlink given it is about to change payments entirely: allow a single fare all non-adult cards, so that kids and students no longer have to "snap off" and keep the bus at a standstill for three minutes at peak times.
Should the Government have a role allocating scarce fuel supplies or let high prices do the work?
