health facilities from using AI to replace the professional judgment of a licensed health care provider. I’m proud to share that this bill was heard in the Assembly Health Committee today in clear recognition that technology should assist human clinicians, not replace them. (2/2)

AI in health care is advancing faster than regulations, but we cannot afford to give up common-sense protections. That’s why I introduced AB 1979, to ensure that direct-to-consumer AI health apps that use your medical records are subject to meaningful oversight, and to prohibit (1/2)
Everyone deserves a seat at the table, and the California Legislative Black Caucus is committed to ensuring the next generation is ready to lead. AALT 2026 applications are now open!

Proud to stand with one of my sheros today in the fight for kids’ online safety. Secretary Hillary Clinton has long been a trailblazer, and it was a joy to share the work we’re advancing here in California, especially through the Children’s Caucus, with such a fierce leader.
Alysa Liu Winter isn’t over yet! ❄️🥇⛸️ So honored to be there to celebrate our golden girl as she made her homecoming after winning gold in Italy. Alysa is an inspiration and represents what it means to be an Oaklander.
California's future shouldn't be defined by Trump or written by billionaires. Proud to stand with @seiuca.org members demanding we #UnrigCalifornia and build a path forward by and for everyday Californians.
California's budget should work for the people, not big corporations. I'm committed to fighting in the Capitol to keep our neighbors insured because losing coverage means more illness, more medical debt, and real public health consequences for all of us.
Alysa embodies what it means to be from Oakland: fearless, authentic, and entirely her own.
Oakland is proud of you and we’re cheering you on every step of the way.
So proud of Oakland’s own Alysa Liu for bringing home yet another gold medal 🥇
With this victory, she ends an over 20-year drought for the US in the category, a historic moment for the sport and for our country.
California's women deserve policy solutions that are as bold as they are. I'm committed to working in our legislature to ensure no woman is left behind as we craft and implement innovative solutions to the toughest problems facing women in this state.
Joined the East Bay legislative delegation at the Oakland Metro Chamber’s first Inside Oakland panel of the year. We're heading into this session focused on delivering real outcomes for Oakland, meeting the community needs in housing, affordability, public safety, and more. Proud to represent AD-18!
This is the tradeoff they’re making: less healthcare, more deportations.
Before today’s hearing, I paused to name this reality and remember the lives lost to brutal ICE raids.
Again, ICE acted as judge, jury, and executioner, killing a protester in broad daylight. Congress must act now: join our Congresswoman @replsimon.bsky.social to impeach DHS Sec. Kristi Noem, reject the DHS funding bill, and abolish the system that lets masked agents terrorize our cities.
Who said an informational hearing has to be boring? The Trump administration isn’t done attacking SNAP, and we’re not done fighting back. We’re staying ready so we don’t have to get ready.
We must commit to investing in standing up to these intolerable abuses of power.
Under Trump, ICE has detained U.S. citizens, caused dangerous vehicle collisions, blinded protesters, shot and killed a Minnesota mother, and now appears to be using a child as bait — all while continuing to disappear members of our communities.
Disgusting. The Trump administration continues to show no moral bounds, using our children to advance its deportation agenda. I have to ask: what is too far for Republican leaders in Sacramento and Washington?
Results take effort, and we’ll keep pushing. See you out there, AD-18.
🧹 With Lodestar, Higherground NDC, and Roots in Deep East Oakland for their rally and cleanup 🏘️ Standing with hundreds of volunteers for @cityofoakland.bsky.social’s Point-in-Time Count to gather the data needed to tackle the homelessness crisis

These past few days, we’ve been up and down the district:

My office was honored to attend the memorial service for the indomitable Coach John Beam this weekend to gather together in mourning and celebration of a legacy larger than life. His presence in the Bay Area and beyond will be deeply missed. May we continue to be beams of light in his memory.
I look forward to continuing to work with Governor Newsom this year to advance shared priorities by centering Oakland, Alameda, and Emeryville to create success statewide.
When the East Bay wins, California wins. Our communities punch above their weight: powering the state’s economy, welcoming and defending our immigrants neighbors, and confronting challenges that mirror those faced across California.
No one is above accountability, and America deserves answers for these horrific acts.
Masked ICE agents believe they can act without fear of consequences while hiding their faces and terrorizing our communities. That is why I supported SB 627, which was signed into law last year and prevents agents in California from concealing their identities.
As Chair of the Assembly Health Committee, I’m committed to confronting these challenges head-on and making sure California delivers for our constituents. Grateful for the recognition from State Affairs.
The deep cuts to our health care system in Trump’s HR 1 are threatening coverage for millions of Californians, pushing more families into medical debt, and further straining our hospitals.
In a moment when our Latino communities face immense challenges, Senator Limón’s leadership, as the first Latina, first woman of color, and only the second woman ever in this role, is a powerful reminder of our community’s strength. Congratulations! I can’t wait to see all that you accomplish. (2/2)
So proud of my sister in service, Senator Monique Limón, for stepping into the role of Senate President pro Tempore with such grace, trailblazing a new path in the legislature. (1/2)
Happy 2026! The Legislature is back in session, and I’m ready to bring the priorities of the East Bay to the halls of power in Sacramento. Let’s get to work building a healthier, happier California that families can afford.
