Cuban Americans are speaking for ourselves. Marco Rubio, Maria Elvira Salazar, and Carlos Giménez do not speak for us, and we refuse to let them push our families into a deeper crisis in our name.

Cuba has one of the highest literacy rates in the world, yet the USA with a literacy rate of ~79% wants to continue to oppress and choke the sovereign island nation?

Who are the wealth creators?
« it is the workers who create wealth, & their organized power that can bring capital accumulation to a grinding halt. »
When things are bad, workers concessions needed; rewards never freely given.

“In an era of increasing corporate power, precarious employment, and attacks on collective bargaining rights, William Davis’s sacrifice resonates with contemporary struggles for workplace dignity and economic justice.”

Today is the 100th anniversary of Davis Day✨
Today we to join in remembering William Davis, a coal miner tragically killed in 1925 during a strike for better working conditions and fair wages in New Waterford. His death ignited a crucial turning point in Nova Scotia’s labour movement.
A black memorial monument for William Davis (1888–1925) with the words "STANDING THE GAFF" engraved on it, surrounded by shrubs and trees. The bottom of the monument includes an etched image of a group of coal miners. Text overlay reads “Davis Day — 100 years” with the NSNDP logo in the corner.
Davis Day today marks 100 years since William Davis was killed by company police during a strike. We honour those who stood the gaff and sacrificed so much for labour and human rights. And we remain committed to better wages and worker protections, and ending scab labour in NS.
"...it's crucial to understand not just the tragic circumstances of Davis's death, but the broader militant tradition of Cape Breton's coal miners that continues to inspire today's labour organizers and union members in the region and across Canada." #DavisDay springmag.ca/standing-the...

New "Know Your Rights At Work" Program. Offered (presented by me!) through the Halifax Workers Action Centre. Hope you might promote it on your own channels. More presentations coming soon. More info and registration (walk ins welcome) on our website www.halifaxwac.ca/workplace-ju...
@tonytracy.ca I loved this! I think it was you that shared my interest. Glad it is coming back. Truly stirring. The wind, the speed... not my usual entertainment, as it attracts all our biggest overlords.
Like others here in Halifax, I am deeply saddened by news that longtime Halifax prisoner justice activist Harry Critchley died suddenly last week.
Harry committed his life to solidarity work with prisoners and victims of police violence.

We were fortunate to interview him in 2021:

12 Janitors at Alderney Gate are about to lose their jobs because the #HRM decided to go with a cheaper non-union contractor.
Emergency rally taking place at Halifax city hall, tomorrow at 6:00pm. HRM needs to do the right thing and make sure these workers’ jobs and contract are upheld! #halifax
Honestly, if there was another platform to appropriately host a very active 65,000+ member & growing group of travellers to Cuba (about a third from the USA) @esooze.bsky.social and I would also abandon Zuckerberg’s platform & that of all rocket-ship billionaires.
But an email list will not cut it.
Thinking of travel to Cuba?
I’d welcome folks to join the 65,000+ member “Cuba Travel Tips” Facebook group that Suzanne ( @esooze.bsky.social) & I launched & co-administer.
It is entirely focused on *independent travel* in Cuba. 🇨🇺
*Not* on resorts, at all.

Suzanne (@esooze.bsky.social) and I were absolutely delighted to be able to catch up in person tonight over dinner & drinks with our dear friend Leanne, fresh back in Canada from her most recent weeks in Havana, and on a very brief whirlwind visit here to Halifax before she heads home to Ontario.
Want to connect with Justice for Workers (Justice4WorkersNS.ca • @j4fns.bsky.social) in Nova Scotia & the decent work movement?
General Meeting of Justice for Workers this Thursday February 27th at 7pm — a “hybrid” meeting: in person at Glitter Bean Café in #Halifax *and* on Zoom.

We had such a terrific response & chats today about Justice for Workers (@j4fns.bsky.social) demands for the province of Nova Scotia to vastly improve all labour / employment legislation & regulations for every worker in the province.

We have been able to hold municipal, provincial & federal elections across Canada and have the results counted and released that night — since 1867! — but handfuls of workers union certification ballots remain sealed in a box due to @AdsumForWomen.bsky.social’s lawyers.
#NSpoli #canlab #1u #SEIU
Halifax workers employed by @AdsumForWomen.bsky.social at The Bridge voted *last June* to join @SeiuLocal2.bsky.social, but the ballot box has remained sealed at the Labour Board because the Adsum’s lawyers’ objections hold up the count.

It is absolutely *shocking* that @AdsumForWomen.bsky.social) has chosen, for the past eight months, to throw money at high-paid anti-union lawyers, and not just allow the ballot boxes for these workers to be open & recogize the union (@SEIUlocal2.bsky.social)
