Critics of new bill say Ohio women would be banned from sports bras, bikinis in public 'The peak of fear mongering.'

Media needs to stop with "critics say" and just quote the actual language of the bill.

HB 249 creates a new category of "seminudity" which can be used to arrest women who aren't nude, but are wearing clothing — leggings, t-shirts without bras — that religious groups feel is too provocative.

Trump’s Memphis Crime Task Force Arrested Over 800 Immigrants, Records Show. Only 2% of the Arrests Were for Violent Crimes. Businesses closed. Churches emptied. Parents afraid to take kids to school. Advocates say what was supposed to be a crime-fighting effort is keeping a community in fear.

After federal agents began eating at Juan Hernandez’s restaurant, immigrant customers stayed away. Sales went down 40%.

He says he felt angry: “They are looking for us, and then they come to eat here.”

Federal judge calls RFK Jr. an “unsafe” leader in order protecting trans youth health care The broad ruling was designed to deflect future attacks on gender-affirming care for kids.

NEW: In a scathing ruling describing RFK Jr. as an “unserious” and “unsafe” leader, a federal judge in Oregon issued an order that will protect doctors and hospitals, and the transgender kids they treat.

Jasper's sister is here! 570g, a tiny dandelion fluff of a kitten.

She had a tick the size of a black bean under her chin, poor little poppet! A bit anaemic, but in good shape overall.

Names welcome!

The Jerusalem Cross is a symbol of the Crusades. Disingenuous people argue it’s “just a representation of Christianity and not bigoted”

But we all fucking know the Crusades was about massacring anyone that wasn’t Christian.

Pete Hegseth has a HUGE one tattooed on his chest

It’s a symbol of hate.

A screenshot of a post on X (formerly Twitter) by Magyar Péter (Ne féljetek), with the handle @magyarpeterMP. The post reads:
"Until 31 May, the Orbán puppets may voluntarily step down from their positions. This applies to the President of Hungary, the President of the Curia, the President of the National Office for the Judiciary, the President of the Constitutional Court, and the Prosecutor General.
On 12 April, the Hungarian people voted for a complete political transformation.
If these officials do not step down voluntarily by 31 May, then — on the basis of the mandate received from millions of Hungarians — we will remove them from office."
At the bottom, the timestamp reads "3:04 AM • Apr 21, 2026" alongside "19.9K Views".

Peter Magyar is not playing around at all. He's going to purge every single remnant of corrupt Orbanism. This is exactly how Dems need to be when they retake power.

Yeah, I’ve never quite got over the profound moral injury aspect of watching so many Americans absolutely refuse to even mildly sacrifice to help others during Covid - watching MAGAs somehow become even more evil was radicalizing.

And now the bastards are trying to destroy MRNA research.

photo of my finished drawing of Sue the T. rex on a table at the airport. They had surprisingly good chili cheese fries there, which as we all know are the ultimate in art fuel. I kinda fucked up the placement on the page, this was much harder to draw than expected. I kept getting sweaty too which I only realized the next day when I woke up with a fever was probably me actually being sick and not knowing it. I should go back and draw this again when I am not sick and do a better job!!!

I was drawing in the museum until they closed(thats why it looks empty above) so I had to finish it up at the airport. I've wanted to see Sue in person since I was a kid so this was a dream come true.

Online abuse of politicians is a profitable business
Senator Eileen Flynn's comments on far-right use of the tricolour have made her a lightning rod for online abuse - because viral hatred is highly profitable

In the space of a few weeks in 2025, Simon Harris required armed gardaí at his family home due to multiple bomb threats, while former taoiseach Leo Varadkar was subjected to a homophobic tirade by a self-styled citizen journalist who filmed the confrontation for social media.
A man is due before the courts in July in connection with an alleged assault on Mary Lou McDonald and two canvassers the day before the presidential election last year. The incident was filmed and went viral online.
So, last week when a video of Senator Eileen Flynn speaking about racism and nationalist propaganda went viral, a predictable and inevitable online pile on began, with posts attacking Flynn's "patriotism" or perceived

Much of the abuse directed at Ms Flynn came from Irish accounts run by people who benefit from algorithmically amplification (so called blue tick accounts), and content monetisation.
Monetisation is now a commonplace feature on social media platforms like X/Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok, that allows the company to "share" revenue.
The more attention (likes, shares, comments etc) a post gets, the more revenue a user earns.
Influencers also often have accounts on three or four platforms and post dozens of times a day, and can also benefit from tips, and paid subscribers so it is difficult to gauge how much they earn, but a single viral post on X can generate over €300 for an influencer, so this can become a quite lucrative activity for not a lot of work.

The abuse directed at Ms Flynn did not only come from Irish accounts; international social media influencers whose attention was already on Ireland since the fuel protests latched onto it too. Defiant Ls, an account run by a Macedonian influencer who promotes Maga content shared the video, as did the account LibsofTikTok, with the caption, 'Irish Senator Eileen Flynn says that she is "terrified" to see her nation's flag and thinks it's "disgraceful" to fly it', received more than 250,000 views and over 1,300 comments, mostly abusive.
LibsOfTikTok has nearly five million fans and the account is run by Chaya Raichik, a right wing influencer who has previously targeted schools, hospitals and libraries across the United States. Victims of her attention have gone to be inundated with threats of violence.

I have a piece in the Examiner today on how content monetisation is fuelling a new wave of online harassment

Irish influencers with monetised accounts are mimicking the behaviour of people like Chaya Raichik, the owner of LibsOfTikTok, who has turned online abuse & harassment into a business model.

In other news, we've named the new little girl Agatha. It was a close race between Agatha and Edith, but I'm going to save Edith for a mountain themed litter I think!

She and Jasper are playing in the crate right now.
