okay - this goes out to our many friends from ohio (where we grew up) who like to razz us for being stuck in florida, florida's ridiculous politics, our many many variations on Florida Man, and so on...
Dear Friends,
What.
The.
Actual.
Fuck.
😳
is this where i get to say, once again, that apple's maps app is, ummmm, massively underdeveloped 🤬
The ghostly appearances of Mabuse still carry amazing power 90 years on...
heh - I just literally watched the Testament of Dr. Mabuse again last night... 👍
p.s. do you think you could bring back the iPod as a side project?
congratulations! don't forget us lowly peon musicmakers on your way to riches and fame 😬
you'd have my vote at the stockholders meeting 👍
your product idea is more than sound: they used to have "forever" gear
for example, i still have a Pismo laptop that works - from 1999
the start of my WB avoidance
this this this
I feel seen. 😞
Name your fav Futurama quote.
you are not alone, and i've owned it since version 1 😖

I’ve had the same editor since 1967. Many times he has said to me over the years or asked me, Why would you use a semicolon instead of a colon? And many times over the years I have said to him things like: I will never speak to you again. Forever. Goodbye. That is it. Thank you very much. And I leave. Then I read the piece and I think of his suggestions. I send him a telegram that says, OK, so you’re right. So what? Don’t ever mention this to me again. If you do, I will never speak to you again
Maya Angelou on the joys of being edited
tim, thomas pynchon would like to have a word...
and hey, since it's analog, you can still look at it! (unlike, if it were digital, you'd just have a blue screen)
AIN'T DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY GRAND
sigh - the technical term is "bit rot"
that and "delamination"
think of it this way… if it wasn't for the self-destructing nature of laserdiscs, we wouldn't know how to improve the technology so that your CDs (hopefully) last longer
sadly, digital is _not_ forever 💀
you could take out an ad: "i have a working Pioneer disc player & can transfer your material" and if it weren't illegal, you'd have lines around the block
wow - most of the units still out there are the Sony/Phillips machines, which the last time I looked were close to 400 bucks.
pioneer made crap - but their decks were good (and didn't break too often, unlike the Sony/Phillips that would roll over and die if you breathed on it too hard)
you have one of those last generation Phillips machines??? 😳
seriously, an analog format on a digital device should have been a nonstarter to begin with (hi, stupid ex-radio guy who just escaped hi-end video/tech/prison here👋)
oh the joy of competitive formats & incompatible CODEC's
supposedly, with the music, it's not compatible than anything lately - the video, especially, unless you have a working laserdisc player
and if I ever come across one, I got a bunch of laser disks that are sitting in a cabinet doing absolutely nothing
CDV was a bastardized format from the get-go; it's actually a laserdisc that's been cut down to 6 inches; when they tried adding audio to them, it made them incompatible with most Laserdisc players as well
CDV video was always analog, but there was a bad habit of not labeling PAL formatted disks
WELL DONE ! Keep going...
the itunes issue still pisses me off royally - actually itunes pisses me off (but not nearly as much as the "Music" app, which requires you to do prep work to make sure you get the version of a song you want instead of an apple substitute)
I went to Ann Arbor today to see all of Philip Glass’ etudes performed by 10 different pianists & even in the 2d to the last row of the mezzanine at Hill Auditorium, it was amazing. They’re keeping the livestream up for a couple of days: www.youtube.com/live/e5VUO7a...
